Would you rather be Pretty or Photogenic?

Hiiii!

So here I am watching something on E - well, it's on and I'm not paying attention - but I heard one of the reality show people say, "You could be the most beautiful girl in the world, but if you're not photogenic, you won't make the cut." Well, something along those lines. And it reminded me of an encounter I had a few years ago in Atlanta. I'd gone out for a friend's birthday party, and there was a round of introductions, which then led to taking photos. I took a picture with this one guy, and showed him the photo on my phone, and he goes, "Wow, you're so photogenic!" I didn't really think much of the statement, and thanked him for the compliment.

At a later date, I mentioned the meeting to a friend, and she went, "Ouch! For real?!" I asked why she had that reaction, and she said something like if someone says you're photogenic, they're saying that you take nice pictures, but aren't necessarily good-looking or pretty.

Hmm!

Do you agree?

And then answer me this... can a pretty person NOT be photogenic? Actually, yes.

  1. A pretty person can be photogenic. However I know people who are pretty but photographs don't do justice to how pretty they really are.
I also know people who look so good in photographs but when you meet them you feel like you have been scammed.lol.

    1. Lol, if people are swooning over her picture, then she has to be somewhat photogenic. Just that she's prettier than her pictures.

  4. Well I'll rather be pretty, its better for someone to see my picture and then see me and say damn the picture did no justice than vice versa. Someone saying you are photogenic doesn't necessarily mean you are ugly but you look great in pictures and maybe a lil better.

  5. One can be pretty and not photogenic and vice-versa. One can also be both. I like to be both though but if i were to choose,i will prefer being photogenic.

  6. Someone once told me i only look like my pictures when I'm not talking. That my smile is too wide and it takes away the beauty everyone sees in my pictures. I didn't know whether to be offended, to laugh, or to cry so I just said 'okay'.

  7. The response to your question will also depend to some extent on the camera in question. Some Cameras have a mind of their own and will do whatsoever they please regardless....

  8. I have had several people tell me i wasnt photogenic. In my mind i rarely take good pictures anyways. An immigration officer in Lagos told me " to please go and change my passport - the picture" he said i was too good looking to take such a picture.

My mother once told me i have the face for the movies not pictures though. And i am weirded out bcos my side view looks better than my front view.

  9. Funny my friend and I talked about this only yesterday, in the flesh he's gorg but pictures? Mba... I think it's more to do with your ease in front of the camera, someone who takes a lot of pictures will be more comfortable in front of one and will have beautiful photographs.

  10. I'd rather be beautiful in reality than be photogenic. I have a friend that looks like a million bucks online but just average looking in reality and it doesn't usually end well when she meets her online dates.
