Berry Change-ful Weekend

Hey hey hey,

How are ya Dakara Dahlings?!?!?! Yes I'm using my fake Bri-ish accent, innit? Screw blokes who haye (Bri-ish accent for "hate") on accents innit? How was your weekend? Mahvelous, I hope! Mine was pre-ey full, innit? It almost seemed like the theme of my weekend centered on change. The first change I MUST tell you about is that I found out my husband has been chea-ing!!! I was in so much shock and uh-erly broken when I heard.

I mean, seriously. Prince Carl Philip just went and got married to some chick. What the fudge muffin?! I thought I was going to be HRH The Princess Berry of Sweden one day. I was with my other husband, Cakes when I heard, and he quickly rolled his eyes consoled me.

Anyway, my weekend...

On Friday, I met up with one of my dearest dearest specialest beautifulest darlingest (but obviously not as dahling as YOU) friends! Isn't it cool how you can be in the same city with a close friend, not see them for months, and when you eventually hangout, it's like there wasn't any absence at all? We had dinner and drinks at Sky Lounge in Eko Hotel. We almost always end up there or Spice Route (we love Indian food). I hope everyone has a good friend that you are comfortable with and can speak to without judgement (but will admonish you when you go wrong).

All the yummy food we ate.
Cakes came to pick me up when we were done and we spent some quality time lining up for fuel. SMH

See how tired poor Cakes looks. Erm, follow me on Instagram.
The next day, I went to a women-oriented conference, called Dabira Woman (saw some readers too - HIIIIIIIIIII). There were 5 speakers who touched on topics from Emotional Abuse to Faith to Relationships. It was really impactful and I hope it inspires some change within me. Particularly interesting was Fela Durotoye's session on merging your Workplace and your Purpose. I'll share some notes I took in a later post, like I did for the Redefining Finance event here and here.

That's what I wore to the event. Meanwhile, I'm wondering whether I should post photos in collages or individual ones? A lot of times, I have way too many photos to post, which slow down loading of the page. Let me know in the comments which one you prefer - collages or individuals... or maybe a mix?

Moving on, after the event, I headed to Sleek Studio in Victoria Island. I've mentioned in a few recent posts that I need to find a new powder (see... change theme) because the one I currently use makes my face shiny after a short while. I've specifically been looking for matte powders to combat my oily skin. Someone at Salon Day Out (post coming tomorrow) recommended trying Sleek powders - hence my trip there. Shall I do a review post of my visit there?

Afterwards, I went to Ikoyi to run some errands and then spent a looooong time in traffic trying to get home. Luckily, I was on the phone with my dad and sister. My dad was giving me advice - he says our second bedroom which should be a guest room is full of my shoes (yeah yeah yeah, it's true but...). I told him we don't have the money now for all the new furniture we want, and he goes, "When you people will not sit down in one place? Always going to eat here, go there, watch this, do that... how will you have money?!" LOL! He's right sha. A podcast I listened to once said if you want to travel to Europe for instance, a good way to be frugal and save towards it is ask, "Do I want to eat at this restaurant/buy this dress/pay for asoebi now or travel to Italy later?"  BAM! I just spat knowledge at you!

Finally on Sunday, after church (we visited House on the Rock - Hi IgboBeyonce!), we went to deliver cakes around, and then I headed to the Vane Style Clinic by Veronica Odeka. It's no secret on this blog, that my style is just there and can be improved, so I was taking a positive step towards that. It was a really nice event (and yes, I will share in a different post later).

P.S. Check out some of the cakes we delivered over the weekend.

Someone we delivered a cake to yesterday, put up a post on her Instagram account and tagged Cakes. He called to tell me and said that the message moved him so much and brought tears to his eyes. To Lulu, Happy Birthday. Thank you so very much for your very very very kind words. I've never met you, but it's obvious that you are a beautiful soul and I just want to appreciate you (Fela Durotoye spoke about Appreciation and I want to make it a point to give appreciation when/to whom due).

Okay I'm off! My back is aching for reasons unknown to me. That's a lie, my bag is too heavy.

Have a berry pretty weekend!

  6. Yeah, I think you should do picture collages. Consumes less space and data.

I never thought I'd be one of them

  7. Awwwwww.... What a way to end the post! My bag is ALWAYS heavy too :( I think the collage is better, but you can mix it too sometimes. It sure makes the load time longer.

  9. if cakes doesn't already have a blog he needs to start one and so that his customers can engage with him more. he is very talented and, as a plain cake maker myself, i admire his sugarcraft a great deal. very relatable, nothing stupidly outrageous. i often go to his ig page to observe the next display.keep it up, cakes. your biz will continue to grow with the lovely berry by your side.
