REVIEW: Terra Kulture Restaurant

A few weeks ago, Cakes and I headed out to Terra Kulture to watch the Single in Gidi play. We had also purchased Dealdey coupons for 2 meals and intended to use them there. Unfortunately we forgot to print the coupons, but we were hungry and decided to eat anyways.

Cakes and I ran into our friend Mandy there, so we asked her to join us for lunch.
The Three Hungry Musketeers
Terra Kulture is widely known for its stage plays and productions, art gallery, library/reading room, event space, restaurant and more. The first thing you notice when you go to the restaurant is the space. It's definitely not your conventional Nigerian restaurant space. It's kinda quirky and I like it.

This wasn't the first time I'd eaten there, but it had been a long while. I immediately noticed their Quick Service Menu, which is pretty nifty so that you don't need to go through the whole menu. Of course, the Quick Service Menu lists only a few items, so if you want more choices, you can ask for the regular menu.

Another cool thing was the pad at the base of the quick menu. I was 100% sure it was just for show, but it worked. We called the waiter when we were ready to order by pushing the button, and got our bill the same way.

I also liked their Salt and Pepper shakers. I wonder if they sell them at their store.

My drink staples when I go to restaurants are either Water or Chapman. The Chapman I ordered was really good!

Our friend is doing this Whole 30 Meal plan, and was concerned about whether they would make her food according to the plan requirements. To her delight, Terra Kulture was able to meet her needs. She got the Egg/Corned Beef sauce with yam.

Cakes ordered Spicy Snails (minus pepper) with Sweet Potatoes. Very very yummy. I just love sweet potatoes. Oh yeah, I almost always taste his food. He might have gotten fried yam as well, but I forgot to take the photos.

I got the Spicy Chicken Wings and Fries. All I know is I was dreaming about the food for days afterwards!!! The chicken wings were very delicious - nice and crispy on the outside, and the sauce on it was really really good. The fries were great too - I clearly have a weakness for potatoes.

Unfortunately, I can't remember how much we paid.

Overall, our visit was great and I couldn't wait to get back with our Dealdey coupons... Alas, when we went back, the food was really not it - the same chicken wings, I don't know whether it was a different chef or they were annoyed because the food was discounted, but the wings were really sad. Additionally, they told us the food would be ready in 15 minutes, but we waited for at least 30 minutes. And our waitress that day was SO inattentive. All this together was weird because it was a week day and they had fewer customers. So does this mean I should eat there on weekends only? Or maybe my previous experience made me have too high expectations? Or was it really because the food was discounted? I don't know.

Anyways, here are Terra Kulture's details:

  1. I started reading this review and kept wondering if it was the same Terra Kulture restaurant I went to (Also to see Single in Gidi). In Summary, I was totally and completely disappointed!

I was with Dealdey coupons as well so maybe that's their attitude and service when their prices are discounted as rightly put. But puhlease, if you can't afford to give a discount on good service, don't do it. It Is Not By Force!

The chapman was okay, the ofada rice with sauce and diced beef was okay, the starter (four pieces of chicken wings and chips) came last and was terrible both in presentation and taste.

I spent a total of about an hour and a half before i was served and was able to leave.

    1. Ah, so the bland Dealdey food wasn't just me?! Wow. Erm, this doesn't look good.

  2. Wow, the fact that both you have terrible experiences with the Deal Dey coupon is fascinating and a bit funny like they just decided to put in half effort because you weren't paying full price, smh. Sorry about that. That said, I didn't know you could get food coupons on Deal Dey - going to check out what's available now.

    1. I know, it's weird right? Oh well. But yes, lots and lots of coupons on Deal Dey. Just be very cautious. Some places on there can be sketchy.

  3. The last time I went there I actually told off the waiter for being inattentive. A group of tourists who arrived after me (read Caucasian) were served ahead of me, and of course they ordered fish and chips... Smh. I was so incensed I didn't order food and just had some water and left.

    1. Uh oh, this really doesn't sound good at all. That's a shame because I think their food isn't that bad (since the first part of my review was good, obviously).

  5. Went to Terra culture and there was a matchstick in my ofada rice after the food took forever to come. I returned it and went for a club sandwich instead. I was already cheesed off so I decided to ignore the waiters slow ways.
    Was not impressed at all
But their palm wine eventually pacified me. Hehe
