My Notes from BLUSH, BRUSHES & BUBBLY by Stella's Addiction

Hey hey,

So you already know I went to a makeup class put on by Stella's Addiction. There are similar classes in Lagos and Abuja - where you learn how to do your own makeup, not become a makeup artist. Here are my notes... well, mostly photos. I started taking notes at first but it's a really hands-on class, and it's better experienced or watched on Youtube.

On Sunday after church, I headed to Stella's Addiction Makeup Studio for her Blush, Brushes & Bubbly class. I signed up way back in January but had to postpone twice. I finally made it yesterday and it was a fun time with 9 other ladies. We learned different makeup techniques, how to highlight/contour, do a simple everyday eye, and also smokey eye (hence the title of this post). And yay me, I finally put on strip lashes all by myself!!! I definitely have to practice everything going forward.

I had refused to wear makeup the whole morning so I had a fresh palette to work on
Getting our tools ready
There were 10 of us, so you can see that it's a small class and attention is given to everyone. You can totally arrange something similar for a birthday party or bachelorette/hen activities.
Listening and practicing
We had the option of doing either simple makeup or a smokey-eye. I started out wanting to do both, so one eye had simple makeup, and the other had a smokey eye... halfway through the class, I changed my mind and decided on a simple face all around...
The photo on the right is my face in progress. There's this apparently magical highlighting powder made by Ben Nye (banana powder).
By the end of the class, I change my mind yet again, and made it a smokey eye, LOL.
All done! And with my lashes! Oh and I changed my mind and went back to a smokey eye.

The class lasted a good 6 hours, no joke! Here's what I can say about makeup overall - it's fun to do and looks nice when very well done... BUT it can be so much work and very overwhelming. Unless I have a party to go to, I don't understand why my makeup should take more than 5 minutes of my time.

I've been practicing though. My biggest challenges are getting the brows right and putting on the strip lashes. I think that adding lashes to the mix really brings out the face. I managed to get them on once this week (slightly askew sha, and not close enough to my real lashes), and I took them off after 10 minutes - I'm not sure the glue I have works very well. Just watch, my weekend update post on Monday will be Berry Lashes Weekend and all I'll have to talk about is my attempts to get them on correctly :p

  1. Hehehehehe, I absolutely feel you on d overwhelming nature of makeup application especially when you want to do a full face routine! I use makeup maybe twice in a week, and usually it's for the blog! Going to the studio, doing my everyday runs, I go with my bare face!

I like the idea of these makeup classes, and I encourage ladies to attend, so that once in a while you can do your own makeup like a pro...

    1. If I had to do makeup like this everyday, I'm sure I would be sad. But I think it's a good skill to have.
