Style Post: Vlisco Hollandais courtesy of TW Magazine

During the TW Fitness Challenge shortly before my wedding, each of the ladies were required to subscribe to TW Magazine for a 1-year period. I used to enjoy waiting for my magazine to get to me and eagerly pored over the different issues. What I didn't pay attention to was the "Letters" section. I mean I read them, but never noticed that there was always a Star Letter that won a prize. Well, once I was told about it, I wrote a letter about the issue with Osas Ighodaro on the cover - and my letter was chosen as the winner in the next issue! I was really excited and couldn't wait to pick my prize, which was 6 yards of Vlisco fabric.

Vlisco started making their Hollandais aka Dutch Wax fabric in 1864 using the batik method. Unfortunately for them, there are a lot of counterfeits out there - so be sure you're getting authentic Vlisco fabric when you buy it. Speaking of buying authentic, they're finally opening a store in Nigeria this weekend at Ikeja Mall!!! Someone at work told me that Vlisco is what a lot of Northern women wear and it's considered to be the premium of African fabrics. See 10 facts about the brand here. Have you ever seen their ad campaigns? They're always so colorful and vibrant.

Anyways, here are my photos of the outfits I made with my prize. I chose to make separates so that I could pair them with each other as well as other items in my closet.

I got a maxi skirt made as well, and paired it with the top. Something about the combination reminds me of Victorian-era fashion with the peplum over long, full skirts.

I also tried tucking in the blouse into the maxi skirt for a different look.

Which one's your favorite look?

  16. I like the peplum on the maxi. I've always liked the way peplum looks over a flared instead of the expected straight/pencil skirt. I added a skinny waist belt when I wore mine.
Looking very good Berry, with the "kiss me quick" lips
