Berry Long Holiday Weekend

Hello everyone!

How was your weekend?! For those of us in Nigeria, that's "looooooooooooong" weekend! We had Thursday and Friday off, so it was a very welcome four-day weekend. How did you spend yours? I had activities every single day. Needless to say, I'm very tired this Monday morning. All I can say is thank God there's another holiday this Thursday. All I'm going to do is stay home and SLEEP!!! Well, that's the plan for now. I actually have an event for Thursday evening but I'm thinking about skipping it (Friday and Saturday have activities too, and I want to pace myself and not breakdown again).

Anyways, let's get on with what and what I did.

As you know, the whole of last week was the SheHive Motherland Mogul week by She Leads Africa. Throughout the week, entrepreneurs gathered at the Cre8 Space, a new coworking facility for people to come and have a work environment. She Leads Africa put together different activities, such as sessions on Marketing, Data Analytics, Brand Building, etc. Entrepreneurs were also given the opportunities to practice pitch their businesses and got feedback. There were also fun activities like Paint The Night Africa, where we got to paint from scratch and take our art home.

The SLA Week culminated in the pitch competition. The six finalists were given about 6 or 7 minutes each to make presentations about their companies, how far they have come, what their goals are and what help they are looking for. The judges then asked them questions to clarify some points; made suggestions to what they think the business should/could do better, etc. All business owners should be able to sell their businesses to potential investors - this means you should know your business or brand, have your finances properly documented, good strategies to boost your company and edge out competition, etc.

Unfortunately Cakes and I got there late, so we watched just 3.5 pitches - Heat Free Hair, Kamokini, OmoAlata Foods and BeautyRev. While the judges deliberated, I schmoozed with some of the other ladies who attended the event. One of them even made me cry (I'm such a crybaby).

When the judges came back, they announced the winners: in third place, Heat Free Hair; second, Kamokini; and first, OmoAlata Foods. Well done to all the ladies! Many thanks go to She Leads Africa.

The reason why we were late to the She Leads Africa Pitch Competition, was because Cakes and I stopped first at Naturals In The City for an hour or so. I didn't have long to stay but I was able to chat with a few people *hugs to everyone I saw, and double hugs to those I missed*

And that's the end of my weekend recap! Actually, no. I should mention that I went to House on the Rock on Saturday and Sunday to attend their conference. It was a blessing to be there and I'm compelled to spend more time reading God's Word and listening to the Holy Spirit. I want to be so sensitive to the still small voice throughout my day and in everything I do.

Okay, now I'm done. Don't forget to sign up for the Ofadaa N10,000 Gift Card Giveaway! It's very easy. As easy as twirling :)

    1. Well, Lagos has a lot more events than other cities, I agree. But things happen in other places - you just have to look very hard to find them :)

  4. Awww, I missed NITC again. Not super hyped about it though. Maybe cos I'm not a product junkie and there are really no stimulating conversations. After meeting everyone else there's nothing else to do. IMO o.

    1. Ah, it really means you haven't been going. There are usually talks on different things - hair care, health care, beauty, etc. It's not all about going to buy products - although it definitely helps having options around.
