I'm SICK of this blog!!!

Hello friends,

This is going to be a short one. But let me calm your fears, I'm not shutting my blog down. I'm just sick of the template/design. I've actually been thinking about it for a while, and I feel like I want something simple, yet colorful and cheery - a look that reflects the tone of this blog. Honestly, when I chose the current design, I thought the background looked like wallpaper, and the white and pink font felt like I was just getting together with friends in a cafe to gist while having cappuccinos and chocolate muffins. Don't ask me how white + pink = cafe + cappuccinos and chocolate muffins. Anyways, now it just feels like it's YOUR grandmother's living room, and the plastic cover is still on the furniture, and it smells like the late 1960's. Don't ask me how I know what the late 1960's smells like.

Basically, I want a new blog design. A lot of blogs I like have a white, minimalist background and while I like them, I feel like they all look the same. So Imma scratch that off my list. Oh, and I'm pretty sure I'm not willing to pay for a custom template (since I don't place [paid] ads here, I shouldn't put money into it, right?). I think. I dunno.

Now what? :-S

Suggestions pretty please!

P.S. I don't like dark colors - they make me sad.

  1. Try moving your blog to wordpress. Too many amazing free themes on there. Blogspot is too dry. As for those white background things, girl that is the ish. Clean, fab, minimalistic lines will make people take you more serious as a blogger. Glad you mentioned it yourself, because I have been wanting to tell you for eons that your theme looks kind of childish and doesn't reflect your growth as a blogger. Bella Naija is another site i want them to change their theme like yesterday. Haba, it don do. As for no paid adverts on your blog, Berry you and Cakes don't like money ni. We live in 2014, biko. Hobby's now pay for themselves. Gone are the days of doing something for fun. Think about it

    1. Pastel pink could work, with a gold blog title header background? I'll play around with it.

  4. I had this same issue about a month ago. so i decided to buy a template and it was totally worth it. its not expensive and it costs about 3-5k. There are sooo many lovely designs on Etsy. You will definitely find one you like

  5. Sadly I don't know much about blogspot so all I can do is agree with "Anon" and suggest wordpress? Switching hosts is a bear though.

Even though we don't have paid ads, we paid to have custom design freedom at first then we moved to self hosting since we preferred to have total control over the look of the blog. I know what you mean about the all white background but the honest truth is it works.

I'd suggest a deep charcoal or deep chocolate large chevron maybe for your background - subtle in the variation so it's interesting but not distracting. Then pinks/golds for your font.

  6. Whether it looks like my grandmother's curtain abi chair, I will still read it, so I suggest you go with whatever.....this is not helping at all... I know!!! I don't really like giving people advice, so I will just let you make up your mind and then I will compliment the great choice you made.

    1. Lol, I think pink and gold could work but it'd have to be a very delicate balance.

  8. Hmmm... Dilemma of most bloggers. How about a collage of all your husband's cakes? Colorful advertising. To busy? Perhaps. But it will bring in money, which you can then use to buy the customised background you want.

    1. Well...... I have a spot for his cakes on my sidebar. Granted it's an old picture and should be updated ASAP. But he has a separate page, which I've been beyond terrible at updating. Thanks for the reminder!

Meanwhile, I like your blog! I think you should spread your posts at some point, so that you don't run out of material, like I tend to do sometimes. Good job though!

    1. Yellow's a happy color, I agree. If I were to go that route though, it would be a very light, pastel yellow. I wouldn't want a bright, jarring yellow cos I get migraines.

      I'll check it out :)

  10. I really do not like wordpress. Apologies to those using it. Its just blehhhh like that. Anyways, I don't think its really expensive making a good design for the blog. Planning on doing that for my blog also. I support Bisola on the yellow colour. Its a very happy colour.
