So, when I originally glanced over at him, I saw the amount of pounded yam on his plate and didn't realize I made a mental note of it. A few minutes later, I heard a sucking sound, and I turned to see what it was. He was sucking on a piece of cow leg bone (eww, by the way, because feet). But what caught my eye was the pounded yam still on his plate. I asked if he was now wasting the pounded yam, since he was already eating the meat in his soup. He quipped back, "You think I'm like you that arranges your food and keeps meat till the end?"
See now, I've done this practically all my life. My sisters and I do it ALL THE TIME. In fact, Tammy is worse, because she divides her food into different bites and knows what order she'll eat the bites in. I thought eating your meat at the end of the meal was very normal, until someone pointed out that I was weird. It was even in a different situation. We were at McDonalds or Burger King, and I wondered why he was eating his fries and burger at the same time - as in, a few fries, then the burger, then drink, then fries, then drink, then burger. It just didn't make sense to me. You're supposed to have your fries first, THEN eat the burger while sipping on your soda. In the same way, if you're eating rice, you eat the rice first, THEN finish off with the chicken or meat or fish. If you have more than one meat on your plate, then you save the best for last. THAT MAKES SENSE!
Right?
VERY FAMILIAR POST ...I EAT MY MEAT LAST....IF I EAT IT IN BETWEEN, I WILL GET FILLED UP AND PROBABLY WASTE MY FOOD...DON'T KNOW HOW THAT WORKS! BUT THE HUSBAND IS WAYYYYY DIFFERENT! EVEN IF HE EATS IT AT THE START, DOESN'T DISTURB ENDING THE PLATE OF FOOD....MINE WAS AS MATTER OF UPBRINGING!!!!......SOOOO CAKES AIN'T WEIRD!LOL
ReplyDeleteHehehe, it's just funny how people are different and it isn't something you think about until you meet someone who does things differently.
DeleteDivide it up equally girlfriend! ;) I'm with Tammy.
ReplyDeleteOnly if there's enough meat... but you still have to save some for last.
DeleteI eat my meat during my meal biko. It's even weird for me if, I somehow manage to have more meat than or equal to my carbs, and then the meat remains and I don't have any carbs to eat it with. Hope that made sense lol. But I think in my case, it's more that I'm an Instant Gratification Queen lol. I can't wait till the end o jare lol. Middle for the win!
ReplyDeleteMitchell
LOOOOOOOOOOOL! So your main issue is the ratio of carbs to the meat!!!!!
DeleteLol Berry interesting topic. Growing up I always ate my meat at the end of the meal, I have no idea where that practice came from. But now that I'm older, I eat my meat during my meal. For example, a spoon of rice and a bite of meat.I just dont understand saving it till the end but to each his own.
ReplyDeletePrincess Audu
It's boring to eat it at the same time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What do you have to look forward to at the end of the meal? :(
DeleteSee ehn, I don't have poor people problem because my plate is always swimming with meat. As a result, I don't keep track of when I eat what. ;)
ReplyDeleteOn a more serious note, people that eat their meat first or in the middle of eating have serious issues. Monsters they are! You eat your food first and then wash it down with the meat.
LOOOOOOOOL, Ogoo don't kill me abeg.
Deletemy meat and the rest of the food on my plate goes together... thats how we were raised,i think its a zambian culture thing.i remember my mum would shout at you if you saved you meat.she wud ask questions like are you eating meat for the first time?who you saving the meat for?lol
ReplyDeleteLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL @ are you eating meat for the first time? BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
DeleteLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL @ are you eating meat for the first time? BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
DeleteI eat meat/fish last. I guess it's the way most Nigerian parents raised their children. They made us eat it last cos they knew if we ate if first or middle, we wouldn't eat the food again. The meat was the motivation/driving force behind eating the main meal. So by the time you are grown, you are used to eating meat last.
ReplyDeleteOh yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah, that's true. Children like to pretend they're full after eating their meat. I totally forgot about that.
DeleteI eat my meat at the end of the meal in some cases and sometimes during meal.
ReplyDeleteIf I eat any during the meal, I leave some for the end. I always have to have some remaining at the end.
DeleteI noticed this about myself too. I tend to eat one thing then the other.
ReplyDeleteWith salads, I eat the greens then the meat.
Fries before burgers (not trying to mess with cold fries).
Rice and sauce before the meat
Cold fries are so yucky, right?
DeleteBut erm, in salads you have to eat everything together :p I should have put that disclaimer.
I remember we once had a guest in my house when I was ~10yrs old. He ate his meat while eating his rice, and this became a huge source of confusion amongst me and my siblings...lol... we were all puzzled how anyone could do that. Had he (or had he not) broken some golden rule where everyone must eat rice first, and then meat??? We discussed this quite extensively. That planted the seed in my mind that there's another way of eating your food. I started experimenting with it gradually, and now, there ain't no going back - eat the meat along with the food! It tastes so much more delicious that way :)
ReplyDeleteLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL @ your young minds. I can imagine you guys running to hide somewhere to discuss it.
DeleteHahaha. This is funny.
ReplyDeleteI grew who eating my meat last. And kinda still do. Just that now I eat some in the middle to but still leave a greater chuck for last.
Exactly. You and I are on the same wavelength. Like all the time.
