BERRY VLOG: 3 Things I'm Leaving in 2016

Hola!

In addition to being back to blogging, I'm back on Youtube too! In this chit-chat vlog, I shared 3 things I am leaving behind in 2016.

  1. Negativity - The power of positive thinking and positive speech is something I've mentioned on the blog before. I don't want to focus on the negatives (real and imagined) in my life. Instead of being anxious and worrying about my circumstances, I will be praising God for the things He has provided. The Bible says that we should give thanks in all things, so that's what I will be doing. Yes, I will have problems, yes there will be struggles and issues, but guess what? God is bigger than any problem or struggle or issue. It's time to look to Him and His promises over the issues of life!
  2. Low Self-Esteem - Whenever I get a compliment, chances are I'll downplay it. I can be very self-deprecating sometimes, and it's really poor behavior. People tend to see way more value in me than I see in myself. For instance, the first time someone referred to me as a writer, I was confused and almost denied it. The fact that someone last year said she would totally read a book if I decided to write one was mind-boggling to me! But if I really think about it, I have some gifts and talents that God has given me, so why would I undervalue them?!?! No more!
  3. Frivolous Spending - It's not that I spend money any how without thinking about it. But I stopped drawing up monthly budgets - a drawback of being unemployed was that there was no money to even budget with! While I don't do a lot of shopping, I do tend to spend on food. Fast food, restaurants, Starbucks, cookies, etc all tend to add up when you really think about it. I'm not doing that well already in 2017 but I really want to make an effort to do better. It's time for me to get serious with my personal finance, and I've taken a couple of steps to help me along.
What things are you leaving in 2016? What new things are you adopting?

  1. It's good to have you back Berry! I love your blog a lot and I admire your tenacity also. One of the things I am leaving in 2016 is not making comments on blogs I follow....Like yours. Lol. I guess this also doubles as what I intend to adopt this year.

  2. Welcome back Berry! And Happy New Year. 2017 for me means "No more junk!" No more junk in my body, no more junk in my mind, no more junk in my heart, my head, everywhere. I joined an online weight loss class so that's that for body junk. I'm trying to be conscious of my reading so I don't take in junk into my mind, but I'm on social media a lot and sometimes you can't help what flies by you. Oh well. I'll still do my best. Good luck with yours. Mitchell.

    1. Mitchell!!!!!!!! Thanks a lot and Happy New Year and thanks for all your support!!!!

I'm so with you on the junk (well, mind, not food because I'm not that willing :p). Every year at church we do a 21-day fast and I'm being ultra careful what I'm allowing in. So I'm taking a break from social media (unless for promoting blog posts), and also entertainment news. And everything Kardashian related!

I'm sure you'll do fine especially if you put your mind to it.

  4. Welcome back Berry,
I really missed your blogging. I am trying my best not to be stressed out, but I have already failed miserably

    1. Thanks! Aww, what's stressing you? Just remember that worrying and stressing won't really do anything to solve any problems. Just do one tiny thing a day towards fixing the issues, AND also some kind of stress relief measures (light reading, praying, just listening to soft uplifting music).

  5. In 2017, I am leaving behind complaints. I have not fully learned how to be grateful for little milestones especially in my blogging career.

Just this month, I got an office space for free with everything I need, including WiFi. You'd expect that I'd be grateful for this. Of course, I was and am still grateful to my sponsors but I kept asking God for more traffic, more blog subscribers, more this, more that.

2017, I am really making up my mind, God helping me, to be more grateful, bask in the blessings and enjoy the moments.

    1. Ooooh Esther, have you heard of the Gratitude Challenge? I should probably feature my friend who's spearheading the challenge on Instagram now. Get an empty jar, with a hole in the lid and every single day, write something you're grateful for on a piece of paper and stick it in the jar.

Meanwhile, you berra be happy about that office space! I understand wanting more. I think there's a fine balance between being grateful/content and striving for more. Remember to thank God daily for what you do have, and continually pray for growth and improvement.

    1. So very true. And the negative energy is just draining and makes you exhausted with everything.
