What I Did This Weekend

Hello ladies and gentlemen!

How was your weekend?! Did you have fun? I hope so, because I most certainly did!!!

I heard about this event, called The Music Lounge, which would feature musicians (soul and R&B type of music), held at Villa Medici and best of all, FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! So, I planned to go on Friday with Cakes, so we could have a fun date night, and afterwards we would go and watch Half of a Yellow Sun. And then I reserved Saturday night for drinks with my girls.

Of course, being typical me, I didn't really read the information right. The Music Lounge event was supposed to be on Saturday NOT Friday, and I wasn't about to cancel with my friends. Soooooooo, I shifted things around a smidge - Friday would be movie night, and Saturday would be both the music event, and I'd leave early for my girly hangout. Fun stuff, aye?

FRIDAY
I got home from work, had dinner while cuddling with Cakes to watch one of these old high school movies - Can't Hardly Wait. It's one of my fave movies and I think Cakes enjoyed it. But by the time it was over, the time was 7:00pm and our plan to see Half of a Yellow Sun at Genesis Cinema was flushed down the drain, cos start time was 7:15pm. Cakes was adamant about going to see it, so we checked Silverbird's schedule and voila. Okay, I have to say this. Silverbird Galleria parking SUCKS!!! The last time we went there was a year or two ago, and on Friday, I was reminded about why I don't like going there.

Well, we enjoyed the film. I really don't know what the Nigerian Film people were on about when they prohibited the movie from being shown here. Yes, there's the depiction of the Biafran war, but the film is more of a romantic drama set in Biafran times. I must admit, I cried a little when the Igbos were being shot and killed ruthlessly. The film is not as good as the book, but it's enjoyable if you have medium expectations. Cakes was very annoyed at Olanna and Kainene's accents. Like ANNOYED!!! He's like "How can they sound British when they were raised in Nigeria?!?!?! Okay, so they went to university in England. So what? Their accents wouldn't have changed that much." Lol, my ranting hubby. Speaking of accents, I had never ever ever heard/seen Ojukwu speak. Wow. He was such a well-spoken fellow! Plus, he thought before he spoke. He didn't just vomit words out like the majority of politicians now. President Jonathan should go and watch and learn. And First Lady Patience should just stop talking.

This is an interview he gave speaking about the civil war. (P.S. this might be controversial, but I wish Biafra had won the war. I've felt that way since I was a child, without even knowing what it meant, but the little I've read about it... I can't help but think that everyone would have been better off)

SATURDAY
Cakes and I went delivering birthday cakes and cupcakes. NOTE: if you ever decide you want to meet me, just order a cake for delivery on a Saturday late morning or afternoon. Chances are I'll be with Cakes on delivery runs. As I was saying, we went to drop off cakes and cupcakes. The first cake was for my friend's mum, and Cakes is always happy to go there because my friend has such a delicious baby girl. As in, that baby is Cakes' other favorite person in the world!!! She's such a joy though, so I understand. And NO, I AM NOT JEALOUS!!!!!

The cupcakes were for a gentleman whose friend surprised him for his birthday. The look of confusion and shock on his face was heartwarming. :)

We got home after the deliveries and while Cakes napped, I got some Me Time, which was so necessary. I painted my nails and watched a rom-com. I just love Sarah Jessica Parker!

And then, it was time for our music thingy. We got there at 6:30, and lo and behold, there were only a few other people. We waited and waited, and unfortunately, I had to leave to meet up with my girls. At this point, it was almost 8:30 and the music still hadn't started. I believe that if it started on time, it's a very good event that I'd like to go to on a monthly basis. Anyways, I left Cakes there and went to have dinner and drinks with my friends - we had a lovely time chit-chatting about life, family, and work. By midnight, it was time to get back to Cakes. He and his friends were hungry, so I watched them eat at Mega Plaza, before heading home.

Ran into Sheila at the Music Lounge event

Happy couple :)

SUNDAY
I had heard the night before, that Israel Houghton would be at House on the Rock, and I kinda wanted to go. Unfortunately, Cakes was running late picking up cakes from the bakery (yes, he has Sunday orders too). By the time he got home to pick me up, it was late and I had taken medicine to deal with my allergies. How about before we even got to church, the medicine had knocked me out?!?! I slept in the car until 11:36am, at which time, there was no point in even entering. So we left, ran some errands, and went home. We had an impromptu lunch with a church friend and our neighbor - lol, Cakes has a MOUNTAIN of dishes to do.

And that, my friends, was my weekend! Shouts out to Ngozi of Dressed, who I finally met (we ran into each other at the movies, but forgot to take pictures).
