My 30 List

Monday on Bella Naija, which I frequent frequently, Atoke's Monday Banter was about Bucket Lists. For anyone who doesn't know, a bucket list is a list of things you want to do before you die. It can be anything from climbing Mount Everest to meeting your dream celebrity crush! I don't have a Bucket List per se, but I had a Thirty List - 30 Things I Wanted to Do Before I Turned 30. Unfortunately, I only accomplished  about 8 of them, but I thought it would be fun to share...

1) Go to Italy, Greece, France, and Spain 2) Fall in love and then get married - DONE, BUT NOT BEFORE 30. 3) Buy a house/condo 4) Make a pizza from scratch - DONE 5) Take a dance class – belly dance and ballroom 6) Live completely on my own – no parents, siblings, roommates, or husband - DIDN'T DO. BIG REGRET!!! 7) Invest in the stock market 8) Charity work – either Big Sister, or join a Reading Volunteer group 9) Participate in a marathon - DID A 5K ONCE. AND THEN HAD A 24-HR ASTHMA ATTACK. 10) Buy myself diamonds (earrings, necklace, ring or bracelet) 11) Learn how to turn a man down with grace as soon as I see it’s going nowhere - ERM... 12) Find a red lipstick that fits my skin tone - I THINK I HAVE? NOW LOOKING FOR PURPLE LIPSTICK 13) Write a poem 14) Learn how to braid hair 15) Learn how to sew, and maybe knit something! - I MADE A DRESS ONCE BUT NEVER WORE IT.
16) Find the balance between bitch and nice/stupid/naïve/wotever-you-wanna-call-it - BASICALLY, THERE WAS A TIME WHERE IT SEEMED LIKE I WAS TOO NICE AND TAKING NONSENSE FROM PEOPLE. I WANTED TO BE ABLE TO SPEAK OUT WHERE I NEEDED TO, FIRMLY AND POLITELY. 17) Get a "pin-up girl" type photo of myself that I’m proud to show off 18) Own a really nice piece of art – if I can’t make/draw/paint it myself 19) Learn how to play guitar - I LOST MY BOOK AFTER 2 DAYS. DISASTER. 20) Learn a second language (at this point, I think any Nigerian language is out of the question……….so Italian or French) - I ALREADY HAVE MINIMAL KNOWLEDGE OF BOTH AND SPANISH, SO I SHOULD RETRY 21) Understand that I don’t have to prove myself to anyone but moi 22) Have $30,000 sitting in an account somewhere 23) Make a full-length music video or get a bit part in a Nollywood-ish movie - I WAS DESMOND ELLIOTT'S SISTER FOR 2 MINUTES IN 'ART OF DECEPTION' See trailer here 24) Drive a SmartCar or Mini Cooper 25) Become CPR certified 26) Go parasailing 27) Go on a cruise - DONE. WOO HOO!!! 28) Get on a sail boat 29) Read Top 100 books 30) Watch Top 100 movies

I made this list in 2008 or 2009. Why on earth didn't I accomplish more of them??? Maybe I should have a 35 List now? Or a Top 10 before 35? Remember my 2013 Goals list from last year? I didn't complete them and it made me feel ashamed :(

I have another Goals list for this year, but I barely even remember it. I think it's time to print out several copies and post them all over my apartment, and keep the list on my phone so I can look at it everyday.

Do you have any lists?

    1. Writing your goals down is better... printing or posting them on your phone is even better.

  2. I absolutely love love lists.

Currently have a 21 things list and a never-ending bucket list. I can't seem to stop adding to it.

    1. Lol, don't keep adding if you're not getting anything done. Or, maybe add one after you've taken something off the list

  4. Oooh you r in a movie really? Nice! I don't have a bucket list as such. I do have one or two daring things I want to do before I die. Sky diving n maybe bungee jumping. N definitely hot air ballooning if it still exists. And then take some kind of culinary tour of the world. I love food lol

    1. Hot Air Balloooooooooooooooooooooons!! Yes, that shall be on my new list! And the culinary tour sounds delightful! I might be picky with food, but I still want to try different cuisine around the world!

  5. I like your list! I'm not sure if I would be bold enough to do a list for fear of not accomplishing them and having to go back to see that I didn't!

  6. Lol!! Going by your list. Let's see what I have accomplished.

1- Does only France count? Haha.
    2. Well, partly. I'm in love but not married.
    3. Nay
    4. Pfft, I'm a boss at that.
    5. I'm currently taking a dance class.
    6. Currently living on my own. It's the BEST THING EVER!!!

    9. I usually participate in this one that happens in my area every year. It's a 5 mile run but in my book, that's already a cross country marathon.
    10. No money for that yet.
    11. I'm not sure if I do that with grace..lool
    12. I have a bunch of them.
    13. I'm a writer sorta, so yeah.
    14. Still getting there.
    15. Ain't nobody got time for that.
    16. I've had that balance since I was born.
    17-19: Nope

  8. I saw you in the preview. You are a superstar o. I know one, lol.

Please, next time you do a list, make it SMART.

    1. I feel like these kinda lists don't need to be SMART. My Goals can be SMART. This one can be whimsical :P

    2. Hmm I dunno how a "smart" list looks like, I'd sure like to see one.
Everything on your list is likely to be on mine and then some.
However I take exception to 29 and 30 just because there are many top 100 books n movies list out there and it most reflects western tastes. Xx Titi

You're right about 29 and 30. I actually honed in on some lists that I wanted to follow.

  10. I make a list every year, sometimes with sub-steps of how to achieve the goals. The fashion ones are on the blog so I am publicly accountable. The rest stays with me. I don't have a bucket list but I do want to work on either that or a by 35 list.
For the yearly ones, whatever doesn't get completed is rolled over to the next year if still applicable

    1. I don't like Bucket Lists to be honest... they seem a little morbid to me.

It's good that you post some of your goals on your blog for accountability.

  11. I've done quite a few on your list but it goes to show how everyone has different things in mind. Parasailing was last year in Cancun. As someone who likes to remain on the ground, that was major but it was fun. You've done some of the things I want to try like jetskiing.

  12. Your 2013 list actually made me write a list last year,
And i think ive done almost everything on my list.
:) God has a reason for everything sha.

    1. Wow. On one hand, that's awesome for you! On the other hand, so bad of me to not complete most of mine!

  13. I'm- a list maker! I make lists every morning of what I want to accomplish that day. I make lists every month, every quarter and at the beginning of every year for the same reason.
Whether I accomplish the things on my lists is another matter. My entire house, all my phones and my ex-laptop: littered with lists.
Funny enough, I don't actually have a bucket list (I think I secretly believe I'll live forever).
