Life Lately: May 2019

Welcome to June!

May went by so quickly, didn't it? I feel like I just wrote the April Life Lately post just a few days ago. Well, thank God for June because it's Cocoa's birthday in two weeks! I'm not having a party or anything, but hopefully will have some photos to share when the time comes. On that note, let's find out what's been happening in my life, aye?

LITTLE MISS COCOA
Cocoa is the highlight of my life!!! And also stressful, because Toddler age :p

She's learning so many new words everyday! Just last weekend she told me that she was cooking! I didn't know she knew how to say cooking! And just yesterday, she pointed out to different numbers and correctly called them out!!!!! How is my little MiuMiu doing all of that? She's not even 2!

We're still on the Potty Training struggle. I'm almost ready to just give up and let her school handle it completely. I try on the weekends to let her roam free - apologies to my parents and their carpet for all the pee and poop. We'll get there though!

I'm trying to do better with her hair - as far as styling and a regimen. Remember I listed her hair as one of the things that gives me Mum Guilt? I'm not doing great, but I'm looking at improving my skills. If you have little ones, what do you do, and what products do you use for their hair? I'm going to throw in a photo of my hair too, cos it seems to be growing, aye?

READ
Nothing! I lost my reading zeal in May. I started two books but was either too bored or too lazy to complete either of them. I have borrowed two new books from the library - recommended through Madeline's blog, and I hope I get into them and finish them in June. Maybe my mind needed a break from reading. Who knows?

WATCHED
The Wife starring Glenn Close. I watched it on the plane heading to Detroit on Memorial Day weekend. Sadly I did not finish it - I had 10 minutes left when the plane landed and we had to get off. I made it up by reading the plot summary on Wikipedia though. It's a slow story but riveting, in my opinion. It follows an author who has been selected to receive a Nobel prize, and his relationship with his wife and son. Glenn Close was nominated for an Oscar for this film this year, but lost to the other lady from The Favourite - honestly, I understand why that actress won the award over Glenn Close. They both did smashing jobs though.

I'm glad that Game of Thrones is over. I'm almost 100% fine with how it ended. What I did not appreciate was the backlash the show received from the audience. Yes, I get that everyone has their own opinions, but it seemed like there was a sort of bandwagon of hate all of a sudden. To them I say, "Y'all are jokers and know even less than Jon Snow!"

I also watched The Royal Hibiscus Hotel on Prime video, and I totally enjoyed it. I'm getting more into watching modern Nollywood films, and this one was a delight - especially the lady that played Zainab Balogun's mother, and Lala Akindoju as well! Their antics kept me laughing throughout! Have any of you seen it? What other movies would you recommend I watch?

TRAVELED
Cocoa, my mum and I flew up to Detroit for Memorial Day weekend, and drove back down to Atlanta with my sister, Tammy. The main reason why we traveled was because of Tammy's inclusion in a fashion show (see Friday's Lovely Links that has a link to the post). While there, Cocoa and I also had two Mummy and Me photo shoots. The first of them will be posted this Wednesday, and I haven't decided when the next one will be posted. Since my sister's here for the summer, and she's a photographer, I'm hoping to have a few more shoots with her - and one or two more Mummy and Me shoots.

DEVOTIONALS
I will be totally honest and say that I didn't really read any. Well, I read a very short one that I liked. But things have been tough. I don't like to admit that it's been hard to pray because I don't really know what to pray for. I mean I know, but it just seems like God already knows what I need/want, and they seem to be taking a very long time (that's even if God plans to answer them), so I'm just like :-|. I don't like it. I feel far and disconnected from God, even though I know He's right there waiting for me. :(

BIRTHDAY
As you know, it was my birthday just last week. I didn't have any expectations, but was pleasantly surprised how it turned out. I think from next year, I'll take my birthday off so I don't have to go into work, but I enjoyed my day through to the weekend. So many thanks to my family, my friends, and all of you!

What did you get up to in May? And what are you most looking forward to in June?

  2. I think that movie is "The Wife" not "The good wife". I might be wrong though. But yeah I completely understand that disconnect from God that happens during the wait and stuff. I think God understands, and to just work your way back to him,
