Berry Away Weekend

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey,

How are you my darling?! How was your weekend? What do you have planned for the week?

At this exact moment, I'm sitting in the living room, Cakes is on the floor watching CNN (aka the bringer of news, most of which is bad), and we're both wearing hoodies and socks because...
ATLANTA IS COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Worraheck?! Anybody that tells me Global Warming and Climate Change aren't real, knows NOTHING like Jon Snow! Speaking of Jon Snow, can Game of Thrones start back already?

Okay, so we left Lagos on Friday night and after 31 hours of travel time, we finally made it to Atlanta. Total flight time was 17 hours, and the remaining 14 hours were spent in airports. I don't think I'm breaking up my next trip. Just give me my direct flight from Lagos to Atlanta - I'll pay the extra money. Anyways, thank God for journey mercies and that we met my family hale and hearty.

Ooooh, somebody fainted on our flight from Amsterdam to New York o! I was asleep when the flight attendants called for doctors - I woke up VERY QUICKLY. This guy apparently just randomly passed out and wasn't moving. They checked his blood pressure, which was very low, and his pulse was faint. At that point, I was getting ready to panic and start crying. But the guy's wife was calm - she was worried and I could see tears about to form, but she wasn't really saying much. It made me compare Nigerians to non-Nigerians. If it was a Nigerian woman (like me), I'm 100000000% sure she would have been screaming, "E WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! JEHOVAH CHINEKE!" and we would have been hearing prayers and speaking in tongues everywhere! LOL! Me sha, I was praying silently that God should heal the man. After about 20-30 minutes, he was back in his seat, albeit on oxygen. Thank God for his life o.

This week is Thanksgiving in the US, and this will be the first time my family's all together (my siblings, my parents and I) in 2 years, so I'm understandably very excited. I'll definitely share photos from our Thanksgiving lunch/dinner - we're having my favorite... TURDUCKEN! It's a chicken inside a duck inside a turkey - chai, shey I was complaining about weight gain 2 weeks ago - I haven't started :p I think I've already gained 5 pounds in 2 days.

*erm, Cakes literally just started doing push-ups randomly. It's as if he's reading my mind*

Okay, last bit of gist now - Cakes and I went with my sister, her hubby and my nephew to watch the Macy's Christmas Tree lighting yesterday where Mercy Me and Jordin Sparks performed. I like how by October/November, Christmas decorations have started going up - in Nigeria and America too. I can't wait to get back to listening to my Christmas radio stations. Woot woot!!!

I made a short video of the fireworks after the tree was lit.

Alrighty, time for me to get on with my week. Have a lovely one!!! I'll try not to slow down on the blog too much.

PS - Follow me on Snapchat and Periscope - BERRYDAKARA, cos I'll be posting quite a bit during my holiday.

  4. Wow- what a scare! I'm glad the passenger was okay. Atlanta SHOULD be cold at this time of year, it's the end of November! Lol. I would be worried and maybe a believer if it were 70-80 degrees still over there. As you guys have arrived to ATL now, my sister is preparing to leave ATL to head towards colder weather to be with our family too! I kinda feel bad that she's going to need quite a few more layers of clothing. (But not too bad because I have to endure the cold everyday -haha, older sister laugh!) Enjoy the beautiful sites and displays! I've been a little bummed because I do NOT see signs of Christmas holiday lights and cheer around me. :/ I've started to listen to Christmas music too though, so that helps :). You and your family have a Happy Thanksgiving!

    1. This is the coldest Thanksgiving Atlanta's had in 6 years! I wasn't expecting 70's but 30's and 40's is a bit much!!!! Awww, I'm sure soon enough there'll be too many Christmas lights around you. Listening to Christmas music definitely helps a great deal. I hope you and your family have a great time together :)

  18. Hi Berry,

    Lovely photographs!

Lol @ CNN the bringer of bad news. Thank God that man on the plane got better, it must have been so terrifying.

Hahahahaha! "JEHOVAH CHINEKE!" really got me laughing. Yes o, Nigerian women are naturally dramatic, I mean, why say a demure "Ouch" when you can yell an energetic "Ye kpa" ? :-)

I'd never heard of a Turducken before, looks delicious. Ah! Eat well, don't worry about gaining weight, because when you return to Lagos the wahala of fuel queues will burn all the calories.

Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

    1. Most news is bad news these days. It's just that Cakes watches CNN the most, if not I'd add all the news stations!

LOOOOOOL @ ouch versus Ye kpa!

The fuel scarcity is scaring me o

"CNN bringer of bad news"... exactly why I don't watch the news. If it's very important, I'd hear it eventually so... I like your gist sha. Interesting stuff.
