How are ya? My Monday's off to a funny start, but I'm praying for a great week regardless. What did you get up to this weekend? Mine was full of new beginnings for friends of mine - I went to a baby shower on Saturday, and yesterday was one of Cakes' best friend's introduction. For non-Nigerian readers, an Introduction is held after a guy proposes to his girlfriend - his family is required by tradition to visit her family to introduce themselves and make their intent known. It's pretty funny because it's usually stated as, "We're from so-and-so... our son was passing by and saw a very beautiful flower in your garden... we want to pluck the flower with your permission." LOL! It isn't usually a big event, but these days, affluent families are turning it into mini-weddings with canopies/tents, catering, new outfits for everybody, etc. For OUR introduction, I wasn't even there. I was in Lagos, and I heard about it afterwards. Oh well.
I don't have too many photos and didn't take any of myself this weekend - for some reason, Cakes and I "disagreed" quite a bit this weekend, so I did a lot of sulking. And sulking ain't cute, so no photos of me *hides face*
On Friday, we looked forward to a quiet evening at home, but someone called in the afternoon for emergency Traditional AND White wedding cakes for the following day! Cakes and his crew did well o. They delivered the cakes on time, and still had many more cakes to deliver that Saturday. Check out the Minions cakes they made below.
Aren't the cakes so cute?! While doing the Saturday deliveries, I headed off to my friend's baby shower. It was held at the George Hotel, which is one of the newest hotels in Ikoyi. It's so pretty there! Here's what I realized - if I was a wealthy person, I would spend quite a bit of money on Travel and Hospitality. I LOVE hotels! If I could live in a hotel, I would in a heartbeat.
This was a pretty Baby Shower cake. It wasn't made by Cakes though, and I didn't catch the name of the vendor. |
I had heard that food at the George Hotel wasn't very good, so I didn't have good expectations. But I enjoyed the food o. Everything I ate was yummy, and the Chapman was fantastic!
We had a nice time at the baby shower, and I wish Dodo a safe delivery and a joyful baby who will bring the family only good news!
Yesterday was Cakes' friend's introduction. Even after doing nice makeup, because I was sulking, I wasn't interested in my camera. So the moral of the story is this: Don't fight with your husband before occasions because you won't want to smile for the camera...
Feel free to fight AFTER the event is done. At least you have your nice photos already.

DeleteAnd yeah, no more sulking for me before. Lol
Very lovely post. I once asked my mom isn't an introduction suppose to be between family and close friends alone?
ReplyDeleteI am glad I am not the only one that feels that way.
Cakes makes very beautiful cakes.

Exactly! An introduction isn't really supposed to be a party. But you should see some of them now - caterers, event planners, decor, all sorts. Well? I guess if they have the money...
DeleteAwww, eyah, hope you guys have settled now!
ReplyDeleteThe slushy drink looks delicious!!!

DeleteIf you were a wealthy person, you won't live in a hotel. You would create a hotel ambience in your lavish home. That is the kind of financial sense that gets people wealthy and helps them stay wealthy in the first place.
ReplyDeleteMy first online shopping experience in Nigeria
Or maybe I'll OWN the hotel.
DeleteBerry dont fight periodm just ignore and come back with a joke an hour later.

DeleteYour husband has got some skills, the cake is so creatively cool. As for the introduction, lol at plucking your flower, you've gotta love Nigerians and some of our traditions though.
