Eyeglasses aka Four-Eyes

I got my very first pair of prescription glasses when I was 15 or 16 years old. I had been having these headaches, that turned out to be migraines and was directed to get my eyes checked. I was diagnosed with slight astigmatism in my right eye and prescribed glasses. I can't remember if I was excited about them or not. If I remember correctly, I was halfway between loving and hating the idea of wearing glasses.

In the past few years, I've made it a point to get my eyes checked annually. I'm usually told to wear my glasses throughout the day, since I spend a lot of time reading or looking at a computer screen. But I forget too often and remember to wear them a few times during the week.

I've been asked if I want contacts and my answer is always a big fat NO! I can't imagine putting them in my eyes although if I ever decided to go that route, I would definitely get colored contacts - maybe hazel :)

If you wear eyeglasses, have you ever wondered, "What is the best eyeglass style for my face shape?" I don't put that much thought into it - I just try on different pairs at the store and choose the ones I like the most. I like to go for a little quirk to match my personality.

I used to go for basic glasses, but the last time I had my eyes checked, I decided to upgrade the lens so that they were anti-glare... so I could take nicer selfies :p Sometimes a girl's gotta be a little vain aye?

Which of my eyeglasses is your favorite look?

P.S. My cousin, Zeezee, did my makeup and once I'm done editing the video, I'll open up the giveaway for a free makeover for my Atlanta readers!

  4. I don't think i'll ever get contacts. I can't imagine putting anything in my eye, and that's the reason I didn't see everyone at the back of the hall on my wedding day, because I'm short-sighted.

I started wearing them because in junior school I thought it was cool kids that wore glasses, so I used to wear my friend's own - I'm convinced that's how my eyes got bad.

I usually just buy any pair that suits me but now I'm on the hunt for coloured glasses! i had a pair of really cool pink ones before. Now I want Red and all other bright colours. My current pair cost quite a chunk and now I'm already tired of it, wondering if it was worth it...

I prefer the first pair on you, and your makeup is nice! I noticed the fleek eyeliner even beneath the glasses. Xx

    1. LOOOOOOOOOOOL @ not seeing everyone at the back of the hall.

And @ wearing your friends' glasses. It's usually the other way around cos the nerds wear glasses.

I really like colored glasses. But I would advise that you get something that definitely fits your skin tone... and that you won't get bored of quickly :p

  5. I used to have really great eyesight growing up even though my parents were glasses, 2 sisters were glasses and my best friend was glassed. Back in the days, i would read out street signs and signboards from far away while my parents were driving.

I think it was when i got to Uni i noticed i needed glasses. However, I'd just taken off braces and i dint feel ready to jump into another fix. I wasn't sure i wanted to look like a nerd either. I went through Uni without the glasses and one thing it did was sharpen my hearing. What i couldn't see on board, i got down every word the lecturer said.

Then i got into the working world and continued to cope... Till 2012! I got a new job and there were presentations practically everyday! One day i sat through a presentation and realized i didn't see a thing on the screen. That was how i made the decision to submit myself to getting glassed in June 2012. My best friend was so excited to welcome me to the glassed community.

I am short-sighted so i can function optimally (e.g read the tiniest print newspapers and novels) without my glasses tho and i only wear it to see projectors or big screens or far-off stuff. I also wear it when i need to think so its become synonymous with my nerd look.

I've wondered "What is the best eyeglass style for my face shape?" and ive stuck to the square frames for both recommended frames and sunglasses (wish i could send u a pic). I can't imagine putting contacts in my eyes either and I think that's a closed issue.

I love the first eyeglasses, its similar to mine. It seems to give a work-life day-night kind of balance. However, I'm partial to the second eyeglasses as well (the brown looks good on you).

P.S I currently use a Marc Jacobs frame but im thinking of trying something new. Can u help with the brand names u tried on?

    1. OH yes! Presentations and sitting in front of screens will take a toll on your eyesight, so everyone needs to be careful.

Send me a photo! Why can't you send it? Are you shy?

I've never been able to get into designer frames *hides face* But I like them on other people. I usually get my eyes checked and the frames from Americas Best. If I remember correctly, #1 was from Ricky Smiley's collection and the last one were from House of Dereon.

  6. The tortoise shell-plain and tortoise shell/purple and the first frames.

As for me I choose frames that suit my face and have an eye-catching element to go with my personality. I try to steer clear of the plain type .

    1. Thanks Bee! Yup, everyone should go with glasses that match their personalities. I think it makes for interesting conversation too.

  7. I especially like the pose with the photobomb kiss!
The rectangular frames hide your eyes more, I think
    but all look good!
My fav is the last one because of soft color.

I prefer contacts so my face can be seen ;o)

    1. Thanks Annette! Cakes totally photobombed me, didn't he? I think if I ever got contacts, I'd wear them only on special occasions.

  8. I've been officially "bottles" for many years and I've tried so many looks including Spiderman glasses way back.
My favorite looks are 2 and 4... I'm partial to 2 cos I have a similar pair. Lol.
Contracts are a nice way to switch up your look, I've used hazel and grey, honey is also a nice color option. Consider daily disposables if you're worried about hygiene. You can also get your first contacts-wearing practice at your option.

  9. I have been wearing glasses for over 20 years and I still despise them. Thinking about finally getting contacts. Where do you go to get your glasses?

    1. Awwww, why? I think glasses are great actually. They add an interesting element to your person, if you have nice frames. I go to Americas Best.

  10. The one with Cakes in it is so sweet.

The glasses aren't so different as to change your looks substantially.
    All very nice.
If I must choose then I choose the one In the last pics.

  13. As someone who has been wearing glasses for the last 24 years I can relate quite well to your feelings. I tried contacts for the first time in 2008 and it was as if i had been walking round blind before. Oh my! I felt like someone who had just received healing. I was touching everything in wonder. I rarely wear them cos i like the daily ones but I've heard Naija is not the best place for wearing contacts but I look forward to my next time. I think the second and third pair suit you and your makeup is gorgeous.
This post seems to have brought out the typing in a lot of readers. Nice

  14. America's Best explains the second pair, I have a pair that looks just like that.
My favorite look is the last pair, I think it's different and works for various looks from business to casual.
