My problem with blogging

Hey guys,

I hope your week has gone off to a good start. Mine's been bleh because only God knows what I ate this weekend that's made my body go haywire :(

Anyways, as usual, I write on the fly and the topic of this post literally just came to me. I follow blogs using Bloglovin (it's a great tool for me to stay updated with my blog roll, and see all the latest posts from blogs that I follow - you can follow me and never miss a post via Bloglovin here). Anyways, here I am on a Monday evening and while I have Bloglovin open in one tab, I have 6 or 8 other blogs open in other tabs. I don't follow any of them on Bloglovin - not because I don't like them, but I feel like I'm already spending sooooooooo much time on blogging. I enjoy reading other blogs, because I get inspiration and learn from them. However, reading blog posts obviously takes more time than writing posts. I'm getting to the point now, that if I don't catch up with my Bloglovin every day, I have to read over 100 posts within a matter of 3 to 4 days.

But I have to ask myself how many is too many? Lately, I've been saying this phrase over and over to myself: QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. I want to follow blogs that I can learn from, that can make me laugh, that can help me be a better blogger and even a better person. I currently follow over 100 blogs on Bloglovin!!! I think that just as I whittled down my BBM a few years ago (before completely leaving BBM), it's time to declutter. There are some blogs that I follow that I literally even skip over, without reading the posts - so whyyyyyyyyy on earth am I still following them? In addition, there are some other blogs I follow where all the blogger ever wears is designer stuff that I'm either uninterested in, or can't afford (YOU KNOW I'M TRUTHFUL) - so whyyyyy am I following??? I don't want to read or follow people that instill envy vs inspiration, or mindless gossip vs entertainment, etc. It's not necessarily those blogs/writers' faults - in fact, there are people who are inspired by them, so it's mostly a ME thing.

So yeah, this is what I'm thinking. Do you ever feel like you're spending too much time following other blogs? I almost want to ask you to name your Top 5 blogs that you think are top quality, but I'm afraid of adding more blogs to my reading list when I'm trying to declutter :(

#Okbye

I LOVE YOU!

I used to follow as many blogs as possible but now I am having to make my choice as to which I actually benefit from and/or enjoy reading..
Of course, it goes without saying that I love your blog :-) xx

    1. Thanks lady!

And yes, it's better to just stay reading things that you enjoy or benefit from. I think I still have more blog-cleaning to do though.

  3. My top 5 blogs are www.KnotsVilla.com (x5). Loooool! But i sure understand, i used feefly and I think the way its arranged it makes me feel less overwhelmed. I arranged mine as Wedding blogs, Christian blogs, Food Blogs and Personal blogs. Not everyday I'm in the mood for weddings so i check out others and that kinda keeps me sane. Times when i need faith encouragement i move to the Christian blogs and see whats new. So its not every time i actually read every post from a blogger. Btw i love your glasses and hair!

    1. LOOOOL! Of course!

Mine are arranged as well, but it never occurred to me to read them by category! I think I'll try that in the future.

Thanks for the compliment - Nazuri in the building :)

    1. Thank you.

I like some fashion and beauty blogs, but there's one fashion one in particular that I would roll my eyes at almost all the time (cos I was bored), so I just had to delete it from my list.

  5. I read this article this morning and it has been on my mind all day. I guess I have been asking myself why I blog and why I read blogs. Well I read your blog because you are my Fairy-blogmother ha! In all seriousness I generally don't follow blogs for follow sake, I follow blogs that I make an emotional connection with and I am loyal. For instance your blog and fola'soasis are in my top blog because in my mind we are friends and we have regular girlsnight and margaritas(in my mind)!

I do agree that sometimes there needs to be an emotional connection. Like I really do feel like you (and some other bloggers) are my friends, and we're just catching up and gisting with our blog posts.

  8. Hi! My second time here. Yes, I do love your glasses. Where can I get a pair like them?

  9. It's easy. Unfollow blogs that are not adding anything to you, and blogs that don't interest you, even if they are great. I hardly follow food blogs or fashion blogs

  10. Yes o - quality over quantity. I find that as time has passed, my interest in certain blogs has waned. for the ones I know I will want to read in the future, I simply mark the content as read and move on.
The ones that I continuously skip eventually get removed from my blogroll. I have bloglovin but use feedly. It's easy for me to skim the headlines, read what I want and mark everything else as read.

Also being able to maintain categories keeps things organised.

  11. Hmnnn.. I need to do that too. The amount of blogs I follow ehn...it is only God that would help me. Truly I follow blogs I feel connected too. I love their content and I just feel I connect to the blogger. There are some blogs you visit and you don't just feel welcomed.... I just un-bookmark them (if there's a word like that).

  13. I allow myself the luxury of being choosy. Its like friendship, not everyone can be my friend. Lol. And i find when i start liking blogs, they stop updating. I am guilty of not updating mine regularly too. Sooo.

  14. The way I space myself out is that the few blogs I don't wanna miss their content I check them everyday,
i have some I check every other day, some every three days and some once in a week and some once in a month sef.
You are the only one I follow on bloglovin though.
And I have about four on my reading list. Finito.
    All others na randomly oh.

  15. I follow blogs that either make me thing, laugh, smile, gives me news...or have a light hearted banter like yours.
Anything that tends to make me depressed, I unfollow quickly.i know it's our blogs and we can be sad sometimes and write such, and ofcourse, one can also comment with an encouraging word...but constant sad writings? I have a problem with letting it seep into me...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Totally agree. Easy fix. Just unfollow. I have a list of blogs I like and I keep it in my bookmarks (which sync across chrome) when I decide I'm not interested anymore I just delete. I get overwhelmed with Bloglovin and end up following WAY too many people I don't even care about. I also keep a unlisted page on my blog. Here are some of my faves http://riamichelle.com/internet-crew/

  17. I went through the same exact feeling not too long ago too!
Resulted in a mass clean of my following list, and now, I only follow style blogs that I can honestly envision myself rocking, and lifestyle posts that enrich my existence. All the other frivolous isn has been tossed...lol
