Happy New Year!
I hope you who's reading is having a pretty good start to the year. I want to say that I am, but... I feel anxious. I'll write a little about anxiety in a different blog post, but for now, I'd prefer to keep things positive and light.
I remember back in my hey-days of blogging, I'd always start off the new year with a recap of the previous year, a list of personal goals, another list of blogging goals, and a WORD for the year. Those were always fun for me to write out. Actually those were the fun days of blogging. There were a bunch of us Nigerian bloggers sharing our lives and building community. I miss those days. Over the years, people have moved on - some to other platforms, some to being completely offline. I think I can count on one hand, the number of Nigerian bloggers who have been BLOGGING CONSISTENTLY for a decade or more. I'm definitely not one of them, even though it just occurred to me that this blog is actually 10 years old! (see my very first post here).
Where was I going with this? New Year, YES! In the past I was quite the open book - still am, if I'm being honest. BUT I feel like things have changed in the past year or two for me. While I'm still open, I find that I'm more guarded generally. I don't know if this comes from a fear of failure or just wanting to keep some things private. Or is it my being middle-age now? Yes, ladies and gentlemen, FORTY IS MIDDLE AGE. Do 40 year-olds blog? (side note: I just had a mini panic attack over the thought of being laughed at for still trying to blog at 40 years old) I have to remind myself that life does not end after 39 as society seems to push.
Okay, I feel like I'm rambling now. The bottom line is Happy New Year to you. The other bottom line is I'm now a private open book (it makes sense in my head), so while I miss the days of sharing all my goals publicly, I'd rather keep them to myself for the time being.
Also, I'd like to get back to blogging as an outlet for me - to share my thoughts and parts of my life. Mostly for myself, but also for the random person out there that might enjoy reading.
Thanks for reading my rambles and have a pretty year ahead!
I didnt do the racap posts but I enjoyed reading them on blogs. You look amazing.
