Favorite Ways to Relax

As the year draws to a close, I'm thinking about the things I want to do more of in 2016. One of them is true relaxation. I don't get enough sleep as it is, I spend too much time on social media, and I'm beginning to feel like I've forgotten how to relax. I think that it IS important to give yourself a break and do one or two things that you enjoy to help you feel refreshed. So here are a few of my favorite ways to relax.

  1. Chatting/Skyping with my family
  2. Watching videos of my niece and nephew - they make my heart smile.
  3. Drinking a cuppa Earl Grey tea. It's my favorite tea, and I love the scent.
  4. Watch TV - now, this one can be a problem. For as long as I remember, I can sit down and watch up to 12 hours of TV. I think it's a bad thing because it's useful time that I can spend doing other things like reading or praying or cuddling. That being said, watching TV does relax me because I don't have to think. I can get lost in another world, be entertained, laugh, cry, whatever.
Now, let me share other ways I would like to relax, but don't indulge in enough.
  1. Praying and worshiping. I can do so much better with this but I don't. It makes me feel bad.
  2. Reading. I used to enjoy reading a lot. But these days, my attention span is so short and I feel like I can't concentrate on a book without reaching for my phone to chat or browse. I envy people who read.
  3. Listening to podcasts. I listen to some pastors (Andy Stanley and Joyce Meyer are favorites). I also listen to lifestyle podcasts like The Simple Sophisticate. I primarily listen to them on the way to or from work, as I need a way to alleviate Nigerian traffic stress.
  4. Beach life. Not the way Nigerians are used to o, with loud music blaring (must everything be a party with too loud music?). Left to me, early in the mornings, I would go and sit at the beach and watch the waves crash against the shore, the sea breeze enveloping me, and the beauty of the sky starring back at me.
What are YOUR favorite ways to relax?

  2. My favourite way to relax is in prayer and worship. It is just so refreshing to sit at Jesus' feet and commune with Him with no interruptions. Seriously, nothing beats that. In 2016, I want to have more of Him in my life and less of social media and other weights we carry unnecessarily. I enjoyed your post, Berry!

    1. Social media can be such a drag on you! You really get it!

I want more of God in my life too in 2016 and I know I've been severely lacking.

  3. Honestly I think my job is what doesn't relax me. Not that it's a bad job oh, govt Job for that matter but I just can't relax. My mind is always on it.
I took leave for 2 weeks and it was just amazing. I could hear God clearly, pray better, stay still and just listen to him.
It was one of the most relaxing periods I have ever had. No worry about work, bosses, court, documents, accused persons.
Next thing I know I resume work and I am back to rushed prayers in the morning so as not to be late.

    Honestly!
But when I can, I watch a lot of TV. Even if I can't concentrate I just like it to be on.
My sister teases me all the time. The TV is on, She's like " who killed that woman" and I am like " which woman? When!Who killed her" lol.

    1. Girl it seems like you need a little WORK-LIFE BALANCE! You need to find a way to leave work at work.

Aren't vacations just awesome? It's nice to get time off to recharge.

LOL @ watching TV for background noise. Cakes does it a lot.
