I'm in quite a happy mood right now, because my other favorite time of the year (besides my birthday) is Christmas time!!! Read my It's December post from last year. Yup, I really enjoy this time of year :)
I love listening to Christmas music (Carol of the Bells is one of my favorite carol, and then 12 Drunken Days of Christmas), seeing Christmas decorations (the tree and putting up pretty ornaments is something I look forward to), watching Christmas-themed movies (my favorite is Love Actually) and so on.
Specific things I'm loving this Christmas though, are:
- My first Christmas as Cakes' wife. Well, technically, it's not, since our registry was December 12th, and traditional wedding was December 21st. But our white wedding is the ultimate date we choose to celebrate anniversaries, so using that date means it's my first married Christmas. Our anniversary is also 2 days after Christmas Day, so we'll have 3 days of celebration (or hiding away :p).
- One of my new favorite Christmas songs - it's called So Beautiful and it's by my girl, Chee! It really makes me want to twirl around. Adding to the special-ness of the song, my nephew's on the track! Okay, Chee got a bunch of her nieces and nephews to say different things in the bridge, and my sister's son says "Merry Christmas! Woo hoo" (between 2:51 and 2:53).
- Holiday events in Lagos! Last year was the first time I spent Christmas in Nigeria, but because everything was so wedding-centered, I didn't get to go to any events, and there are soooooooo many of them going on. Of course this means spending money, so I'll have to be picky and choose which ones to attend. From productions at Muson Center, to Music Meets Runway, to A White Space's annual Big 60, to fairs (like the AsoEbi Junkie Textile Fair this weekend, who is sponsoring a GIVEAWAY with me that ends tomorrow) - there'll be more than enough to choose from. Review Naija is currently soliciting such events, so if you know of any please leave comments on their post.
So those are my top 3 things I'm looking forward to this year. What are YOU looking forward to?
Lovely song by Chee! Happy Christmas and anniversaries in advance :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Myne! The song is really nice, isn't it?!
DeleteI love "Love Actually " too!!! I have all the soundtracks and I can sing every one of them! Book of love is my favourite!!!
ReplyDeleteAwww, I absolutely adore that movie! I have to make it a Christmas tradition :)
DeleteWell, there's my birthday on the 8th but meh! Iit definitely isn't looking like christmas over here though, with school and the almighty final year exam coming up

Eeeeeek! Best wishes on your exams and Happy Birthday in advance!!!
DeleteI generally liked December, there is a christmas aura that radiates from the beginning of the month and you could hardly do anything to dampen my spirit! BUT i have suffered such great losses this year that i am fighting to rise above, i hope to in this season.
ReplyDeleteWow, I can feel the pain in your comment. I've written a couple of times about going through dark times, feeling like I'm drowning and not being able to see light around me. What I do know is that "this too shall pass." In life we all go through seasons, and even though we'd prefer it to be all happy times forever, it just doesn't happen that way. I pray that God restores your joy (which you can still have in difficult times). I pray for His grace and strength for you to handle this period and emerge better and stronger in the future.
DeleteAnd I wish that you would have something bright to see during this Christmas season.
Remember to "Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
Hang in there :)
Thanks for this reminder.. my dad's birthday would have been Wednesday. And I'm working this weekend. I've been in a dark funky place the past 2days..
DeleteI used to love december, every week in december there's a birthday in my house, starting with my dad's but since we lost him 10years ago to cancer and since then, due to school and now work, I'm always on a different side of the world from the rest of my family so everything is just meh.. I have plans for this year though. I'm getting myself a massive cake to celebrate my birthday and I'm looking forward to the hair meet up being organised by Dabs and we have a fireworks show in my church on the 31st..
