Guess who I FINALLY met!!!

Remember how last year, I almost met Mikel Obi? My friend had invited me out to dinner with her parents and I declined, only for her to send me pictures that she took with him... remember how upset I was, even though I barely even knew who he was, and if he passed me in a hallway I wouldn't even know it was him?

Well, I MET HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clap for me! Okay, let me give you the full gist. See what had happened was,

My friend very graciously invited Cakes and I to the CAF Awards!

Cakes and I getting ready to head out
Yeah yeah, I should be more excited about that, right? But seeing as I'm not particularly into football, I was more interested in who I would see and the performances. So we get there and were escorted to our table (after a little mishap), and shortly after we sit down, some dude walks in and is seated at the table next to us. Cakes gets up to use the restroom, and then the guy gets up to go and greet some guys at another table. I thought to myself, "Hmm, who's this dude? He's kinda hot." And then, I realized he was greeting a bunch of important-looking people. At this point, I picked up the program to put faces to names and that's when I realized he'd greeted Stephen Keshi (he sat at the table in front of us), some nominated coaches and footballers, and then it hit me - THAT'S MIKEL OBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!! I looked at him, looked at the picture in the program, looked at him, looked at the picture to confirm. Of course, I started freaking out silently in my chair. When Cakes got back, I'm like "Looooooook! It's Mikel! Damn, he's finer in person o... no offense to you, honey, but for real he's foine! OMG, I wanna say hi but I'm too shy :(."

*this brings to me to another point - I'm too shy these days to say hello to celebs when I see them. Inside I'm shaking and giddy with excitement, but I can't work up the nerve to say hi and ask for a picture to come and show you. Let's pray for a spirit of courage for me, shall we?*

With a dress like this, should I be shy?! This is my grandma's dress btw
ANYWAYS... eventually, our other friend, Chee, gets on stage to sing the national anthem. She and Ego did a fantastic job! Unfortunately, I was so caught up in the moment, that I forgot to take pictures or video. Then, the show starts and Cakes shows me who and who will perform - FUHLEVUHHHHHHHHHH N'ABANIA!!!!!!! Choi! Only me - Mikel Obi and Flavour in one night! How will I manage?! D'Banj sang (I remember when I used to be crazy about him), this beautiful South African artist (LIRA) sang as well and I'm determined to look for her album(s). There was a pole artist (not dancer o), trapeze artist, and more. Mehn, LAGBAJA killed his performance! He easily had the best act of the night.

By this point, Chee had come to our table and she noticed Mikel on the next table, and has a mini freak out of her own. She goes up to say hi to him and asks if she can get a picture later - he agrees. She and I begin plotting how to get our picture with him, because the awards show is being broadcasted live.

*yet another point - my mum says 'broadcasted' is not a word, but online dictionaries have it as the past tense of 'broadcast.' But then, the red squiggly line that shows misspelled words is showing under 'broadcasted' right now.*

Back to the story, after FuhLEVUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH sang (of course, I danced in my seat), Chee and I seized the opportunity to get our picture with Mikel.

Fuhlevuh N'Abaniaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
I set my phone's camera, made sure the flash was on, gave it to Cakes, and went to pose with Mikel (he asked me if I was alright, with a smile cos I was gushing all over him). Cakes took 3 pictures, and we squealed our thanks to Mikel. I rushed back over to Cakes to see the picture and BAM!!!

Erm...

WTH happened?!?!?! I couldn't believe my eyes. I wasn't sure who to blame - me, Samsung, Glo, Eko Hotel, Cakes, even Mikel himself!

The following day, Chee's brother tried to salvage what he could, of the picture. At least he tried :(

A lil better

And that is my story of how I finally met JOHN MIKEL OBI!

Chee and I at the end of the night

  9. Argh: so sorry about the photo mishap! We can tell from your other pics that this one was a fluke. However, you looked gorgeous in your grandma's dress—you and granny are both stylin' ladies, clearly!

I get kind of starstruck too...but in interviews the celebs always say they're just regular people like us, though if we treated them like normal I wonder if they'd be a bit insulted! lol

    1. It's a lie! If we treat them like normal people, they'll wonder what's going wrong with the world. Although sha, many of them ARE really down to earth. If you ever meet Kate Henshaw, you'll be amazed by how humble and carefree she is.

  13. LOL! I see why my grandma says our generation knows nothing about classic style. You looked glam and that dress is beautiful!
Mehn...why cameras mess up just when the real fun begins is beyond me!!!!

    1. LOL, your grandma knows what she's talking about. Style that transcends time is something that our generation finds hard to grasp.

I dunno for cameras o. Just falling hands all over the place

  14. soo soo lucky. every girl in nigeria wants mikel but he seems really quiet and shy (which i love). berry you need to get ur followers/blog readers tickets to the next caf awards. my highlight will be to meet drogba, mikel and yaya toure if they are nominated. footballers are much nicer than actors/actresses (like that highctress who i'm still guessing is ini edo because "her tory full town".)
