First Kiss Fridays - The Crush

Hello lovers!!!

Last week we had a SPECIAL SPECIAL treat!!! We had our very first First Kiss write up from a guy, and it was soooooooo sweet! He said his wife read it and blushed at all your comments :) Thanks again! And now let's turn to today's story about kisses and crushes.

Anyways, as usual, send stories of your first kisses ever, first kisses with boyfriends/girlfriends, ex-boyfriends/girlfriends, handsome/beautiful strangers, husbands/wives, etc... It will be TOTALLY ANONYMOUS!

Please send your stories to berrydakara@gmail.com

Hi Berry!

I really enjoy the first kiss friday write-ups, so I thought I would contribute as well.

I didn't realize I was smitten until after the third time i saw him. I was musing over the day's events with him and a few others. I had a glow and somehow it hit me, I had a crush...  Not just any crush a SUPERCRUSH! This was the second time I had ever felt so strongly about a guy. We'll call him A.

He was the best friend of a family friend (we'll call him D) and oh boy, the dynamics that situation presented didn't really click in my mind. Anyway we met often at  D's room and I would be dying inside but kept it cool on the surface. I couldn't let A know what was up! One evening, after bumping into him at the library and him saying he hadn't seen me the week before, I ventured onto Facebook to get his number and texted him. Cheeky me! We texted and he called me occasionally. To my surprise, he slowly and subtly revealed his amorous feelings to me as time went by.

The day before I wrote my first test as a university student, he came by the library to check on my progress and offer some words of encouragement. Blushing smiles from me, sweet words from him, heart racing and nervous fidgeting. Eventually he said he had to leave.

A: So I'm leaving..
Me: Okay, get home safe.
A: Uhm won't u give me a mmmm.. (brushing his cheek with his hand, indicating a peck on the cheek)
Innocent Me: Okay

I proceeded to peck his cheek. Just as I brushed his face, he turned his head and gave me his moist, soft lips!! Oh Gosh! In the library!!!  The blood rushed through my body, and time seemed to stand still. It was sweet but rather short given our location. He gave me a hug, peck, and silently, off he went. I blushed afterwards and heard some teasing from other students. I was left too dazed  and shy to text him that night...  What on earth would I say? After 22hrs (Yes, I was counting), finally, a text from A came through:  "Hey Candy, thanks for the kiss. It was sweet" ...I was in Heaven!

He was my first kiss and my first boyfriend :-)

*le sigh* Young love. I love crushes! And inspired by this post, I shall share my 2 favorite crush songs -  "Hey Lover" by LL Cool J feat. Boyz II Men, and "Crush On You" by Mr Cheeks feat. Mario Winans!

Have a berry beautiful weekend ma petite jolie!
Bisous!

First Kiss Fridays - SPECIAL EDITION!

Hello lovers!!!

Last week we had a First Kiss with a Handsome Stranger! And I told you that I had a SPECIAL SPECIAL treat this week!!! Well, without further ado... read this VERY SPECIAL entry :D

So this  isn't my first kiss (and please don't ask how many), but it was indeed a very special one, and you are about to find out why.

So I had met this pretty damsel on Facebook and we hit it off on a good note. My version of the story is that my charm, cockiness and humour was too much for her to handle and she fell gbam! She doesn't quite agree that that is how it went down, but this is my story, so we have to stick with my version. We later graduated to Yahoo chat and phone calls as I was working in one state while she was serving as a corper in another state.

Fast forward to about 3 or 4 months later. Many midnight and daily calls, and numerous chats had gone down where we had explored, flirted and talked about (almost) everything and were almost dating without having actually met. We then decided to meet up and she was to come down to my state and spend the weekend at my place. The day I was to pick her up, I was a bit nervous and kept tabs on her all through her journey. When her bus was close to town, I left the office for the park. I got into a bit of traffic and ultimately got there late. I arrived to see her standing and waiting with her bag, and I was so happy to see she was even more beautiful than her pictures.

I apologized, put her bags in the car and we set off for home. On getting home, I was kinda flustered (who wouldn't, with a hot chic in his house for the first time? Abeg, free me jare). So I kept pacing around, trying to make her comfortable and all that. Next thing I knew she had walked up to me and was all up in my face, just by the wardrobe and then asked, "Wouldn't I kiss her?" (or something like that, I honestly for the life of me can't remember what she said). It was like I was in this beautiful trance as I lowered my head and our lips met. The kiss was heavenly, her lips soft, and as the kiss deepened and I held her close and inhaled her scent, I did not want to let go. That was an amazing moment.

And you know what the best part is? She is now my wife. And the kisses? Still as heavenly as the first time.

*Swoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooon! I have to get "razz" for a second here, but YOU WANNA ROMANCE DIE?!?! Ladies, this is living proof that there are romantic guys out there!*

Thanks Dear Reader for this story. Keep me posted on your wife's reaction when you show her the post :D *he's surprising her with the post later - again, I have to ask YOU WANNA ROMANCE DIE?!?!?"

Dear Cakes, I know you don't like writing, but how about a sweet surprise like this for me? :D

Muaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah to you, you, you AND YOU!!!

First Kiss Fridays FIRST!

Hello lovers!!!

This happened almost ten years ago so some details are a little fuzzy. I was attending a NSBE career fair and did not realize that the 50+ copies of my resume I brought with me were tailored to only one company - my objective specifically said that I was interested in working as an intern for Company X! So I had to run over to a FedEx copy and print shop to make some more resumes. As a broke college student, money is already tight, so I was extra stressed out that I had to spend money I did not plan for, and be late to the career fair where I was hoping for a chance to land an internship.

Anyway, at the FedEx store, this really cute guy who was behind me at the payment counter caught up with me after I paid and was on my way back. It turns out that he was attending the same career fair. It could be that because he is from the South and they are generally more laid back but as we walked back to the career fair, his pace was slow and his voice was relaxing so it helped to calm my nerves down. He gave me his business card and asked me to call him; he got major points for not being pushy and trying to collect my number, even though I had no intention of calling him, lol.

The next day, I ran into him and he said "Hey pretty lady, I was expecting a call or text from you all through yesterday." I gave him some random excuse about losing his contact information and he promptly collected my number. I was heading to lunch so he asked if he could join me. I had to go to my hotel room to freshen up or pick up something, I can't remember anymore. Anyway as soon as we got into the room, I kicked off my heels and sat on the bed; he sat next to me. We talked for a little while and he kept on saying things to make me laugh. If you know me, when I laugh, I do so with my whole body, shining my entire 32 and everything. I can't remember the exact details anymore, but I do remember reaching down to put my shoes on and when I straightened up he kissed me. It wasn't my first ever kiss but it was the most memorable first kiss I've shared with any guy to date..

*Our first First Kiss with a Handsome Stranger! My, he sounds like the quintessential Southern (US) gentleman. This reminds me of Gone With The Wind - just the whole Southern thing. I miss Atlanta...*

Thanks Dear Reader for this story. To everyone else, show some love to those around you today :)

Hugs, kisses, winks, a handshake and pat on the back, from moi to you!

First Kiss Fridays is baaaaaaaaaack!!!

Hello lovers!!!

Sorry for the break in transmission. I mistakenly thought we didn't have any stories to share last week, when I hadn't even checked my Spam folder. I checked, and sure enough, we've got stories to shaaaaare! Thank you to the contributors! You are BEAUTIFUL, in every single waaaaaaaaaaay, words can't bring... Oops, sorry. I thought I was Berry Aguilera for a second.

Hi Berry! I still remember my very first kiss, but this isn't about that. This is about my most memorable first kiss. Let's call him X.

I met X just after my final exams in university. I hadn't connected with anyone like that in a while but it was such a frustrating thing at the time because we had been in the same school for all of my years there, but had never even spoken to each other. I always acknowledged his gorgeousness but I didn't know I was really into him until we were properly introduced.

So, we started being friends- talking & texting, but I held back because I was already leaving and there was no point starting anything. Then several weeks later, I had to come back to the city for something, and we hung out a few times. The tension just kept piling up. Until one night, at a pub with X and a few friends, maybe it was the alcohol (I wasn't drunk though), but everything just started making sense in only one direction- DO IT! This was also the year Y.O.L.O was a thing. So maybe I owe Drake a 'Thank You.'

After a few very potent cocktails, I think it had become fairly obvious what we had to do- so without a word, we left the pub for his car in the dark parking lot. I remember leaning on him in silence for like a moment, maybe there was some talking... I can't remember when we made the transition but all of a sudden, it wasn't one kiss, more like a hundred. It felt like one big, hot, steamy explosive everywhere moment- long enough for our friends to come looking for us.The chemistry was amazing and I was glad all the tension and anticipation weren't wasted.

Anyhooo. Life had to happen and we are presently living life in our different locations, but we still keep in touch.

*Oooooh, LAWDY! Somebody gimme a fan. It just got HAWT up in HERE! Ice cold water please! No, a milkshake! No ice cream! Actually, just put me in a bucket of ice! :p

I felt like I was watching a movie, just reading and playing that in my head. You know how you've liked someone for sooooo long, and nothing happens, and then one day it all comes together and BOOM! *whew*

Thanks for this story. I really enjoyed reading it and hope others will too! To everyone else, if you're in a relationship or married, grab your honey today and give him/her a BIG BIG, passionate, toe-curling kiss! Have a wonderful weekend :)

Hi Berry! I've been wanting to write this forever, but NO THANKS to sickness and every other negative factor :p It is well with me :)

My first kiss was with a guy named Samson. He had long, flowing hair, and was as strong as a bear, lion and ox put together. He even killed a lion with his bare hands! No wait, that's a different Samson. I ain't no Delilah! Anyway, I met MY Samson right after I finished secondary school. I had just broken up with my first boyfriend, whom I never kissed and I met Samson shortly after in the estate where I grew up - UP DOLPHIN ESTATE!!!

My first kiss with Samson was very awkward. There was a lot of saliva involved (yuck), and it just felt weird and senseless to me. I'll give you a little shocker here. He was 14 years older than me. I was 18, and he was 32. Don't judge me, but he was my first love, in retrospect. We dated for a little while, but broke up when we both realized that it wasn't going to lead anywhere. The age difference was a mighty hindrance. Now that I think about it though, Samson was very intelligent, mature, God-fearing and is actually the exact type of man I'd want to be with now. I'm 23 now, very single and NOT ready to mingle (lol)... I still thank God for my life though. It's filled with stories and this is one of them.

*Hmmm. If he's exactly the type of guy she'd want, my question would be "Is he still available?" Cos if he is, then why can't they get back together? At this point, he'd be 37 though, so chances are he's married. Aww, such is life.

BTW, have you nominated me for a Nigerian Blog Award or 3 yet? Pretty please nominate moi for Best NEW, HUMOR, PERSONAL blog :) Tenks a bunsh, and have a BERRY PRETTY weekend!

Hi Berry. This isn't a first kiss ever, but a first kiss with someone I'd had a crush on for almost 10 years, if not longer. I had known him since I was 13 or so, but back then we were just friends and I never saw him as someone I was interested in. 2 years later, I moved to a different country and we didn't really keep in touch. A few years later, I'd heard from mutual friends that he moved as well, and I can't remember the exact period but we ran into each other. This time I noticed that he was this tall, dark, and handsome guy and I certainly realized how attracted I was to him. I think he had a girlfriend at the time though, so I just sat back and gisted with him and our friends. Another few years passed and I moved to his city for school, but by then he'd moved to another state, but we saw each other once a year after that. The attraction was still there, but neither of us was interested in a long distance relationship, so we left it at that.

Then two years ago, I wound up in a new city again (lol, I keep moving around like a gypsy), and who turns out to live 2 minutes away?!?! HIM! At this time, I was kind of talking to someone else, so I reached out with only the purest, platonic intentions (honestly). He was shocked that we were in such close proximity to each other and immediately called me, and said we should hang out. His friend's birthday was coming up, and there was a dinner and clubbing outing planned. He picked me up and we went out (as friends, remember) although the electricity between us must have been obvious, because people thought we were a couple. Dinner was nice, I met his friends, and then we went clubbing. At this point, things took a sour turn. He GOT DRUNK OUT OF HIS MIND! Like, someone was pouring straight Hennessy into his mouth! Alcohol is such a turn-off for me, and I was disappointed. By the time the night was over, I was scared of the drive home. He was driving slowly, but still swerving from side to side. I even had to grab the wheel a couple of times before we ended up having an accident. When I got home, I was ecstatic to be getting home with my life intact. But before I left the car, he asked for a hug and I gave it to him. Our faces were close to each other and we ended up kissing for a few seconds. It wasn't totally yucky, but it wasn't the fireworks I was expecting our first kiss to be. I turned and went into my apartment. The following morning, he called to say that he had a dream that we kissed. :-|

*interjecting here* BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I mean, sorry dear Reader, but the last line is just funny. Awww, sorry your first kiss with your longtime crush wasn't nice*

Soooo my first kiss was at age 18  in my first year at university. The guy in question was this infuriating human being in my dorm, who used to mimic my stammering!!! I hated that a lot so I chose to ignore him and paid him no mind. A friend of mine told me that the guy liked me. In fact everybody knew that he liked me! I didn't believe it because, "How can someone like me yet laugh at me and mimic me every time I stammer?? What is this, nursery school?" I just ignored my friend.

Well one evening, Mr. Man came to help me with calculus in my room. While I was solving a problem, he asked if he could kiss me... VERY RANDOM!!! I figured since I had never kissed a guy before - blame it on my STRICT home training, my single sex boarding school, and hardly socializing during holidays - I told him he could kiss me. (I mean, how come an agbaya like myself has never kissed a guy at age 18 ???). I was nervous because I did not know how but we kissed and I liked it lol. I did not tell him he was my first kiss till we started dating in my second semester.

It's been 4 years now and we are still together <3.

My lip imprint is pretty, no?

I was about 16 years old, it was my first relationship. We were about 4 months into it but my vigilante mum never gave us a chance to spend up to 25 minutes alone. So, the only times we had to see each other were the few times I had quick errands to run at the nearby mallam's kiosk.

Then summer holiday came. Bless summer holidays oh my soul!  This gave us more time to spend together! He would come to my JAMB class during breaks/recess. This made it impossible for other "toasters" to approach me, lol. One afternoon, he was able to cajole me into going to have lunch at Chicken Republic. "It's just at Ishaga junction. We'll be back before your break is over," he said. I agreed. We ate fried rice with chicken and Sprite. After lunch, I opted out of going back to lesson, reasoning that the bell would have rung before I'd be able to settle in. And after all, the last class of the day was Christian Religious Studies, which I was sure I could pass without studying. We decided to go to his grandma's house. When we got there, his grandma was on her way out and said we should stay and wait for her return.

For the first time we were alone for longer than usual. At first we talked about random things. I gisted him about boarding school and how the matron had seen one of the many letters he’d written to me; and her many words of advice. I noticed he wasn't really paying attention to what I was saying, so I told him to tell me what was on his mind. Na so the GEHN GEHN start! Lol!

Him: Baby, I want to ask you two questions and then I have a request."
Me: Okay.
Him: Do you love me?"
Me: Yes nah.
Him: Okay, are you still a virgin?
Me: EXCUSE ME?! WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?! For God’s sake, I'm just 16 years old! Of course I am.
Him: Hey hey, don’t shout.
Me: Leave me o! What kind of question is that? *typing this story now is making me laugh so hard.*
Him: Okay, okay. I’m sorry. Baby I’m sorry. Please.
Me: Fine. You’ve asked your questions. What’s the request?
Him: Have you forgiven me?
Me: Yes. What’s the request?
Him: Will you kiss me to prove that I’m forgiven?
Me: *naively thinking he was asking for the usual peck on the lips* Yes o.

So I gave him a peck and withdrew. He smiled, pulled me back to him and said, “That’s not what I meant. Just follow my lead and do as I do very softly.” I simply nodded, lowering my gaze while feeling some sort of embarrassment. He leaned in and pressed his lips to mine, slowly parting my lips with his tongue. Within a few seconds I got the hang of it, and I pulled him closer and kissed him like the expert that I am now. *winks* We continued for about 30 seconds. And yes it was amazing!

We dated till I got admission into university and started opening eyes. Looool. #DontJudgeMe.

How do you like my new design?

I had just entered into the world of teenagers. A lot of changes were happening within AND on my body. I remember sitting at Mr. Biggs with my sister and mum. We had just met Daniel Wilson… remember him? Call me Daniel Wilson, and I’ll play you Ragamuffin. I was giddy with excitement as I loved the song and I have/had the tendency to get star-struck. I went to the restroom and hurriedly came out to inform my mum that my first period was upon me. She hugged me and when we got home, I got to hear (again) the proverbial Birds and Bees talk. I was armed with the knowledge that I could get pregnant if I had sex with a boy, even though I didn’t figure out how sex worked until I was almost twenty. Entering teenage-dom meant puberty, and not only did I begin to develop breasts that would eventually become DDs, I started becoming interested in boys… LOTS OF BOYS!

I was such a shy child. I preferred playing by myself or only with people I was comfortable with. I didn’t like attention and would shrink in crowds. That turned upside down very quickly. While I was still quiet, I began to want attention – from boys. I was small, dark, developing and discovered a penchant for miniskirts. My favorite was a royal blue spandex one my aunt from England had gotten me. When I wore that skirt, I felt eyes on me and I relished the knowledge that I wasn’t so invisible anymore. I began to hang out at the weekend spot more often – going swimming, to the video store, and watching boys play basketball.

One weekend, I met up with my best friend (a boy, of course) to go swimming. While we were there, he introduced me to his friend, Donald. I was 13 or 14, but I was instantly attracted and drawn to him. We didn’t speak much on that first meeting. The next time we met, he didn’t remember who I was! But I wasn’t fazed and I reintroduced myself. If you ask him today, he’ll tell you that I chatted him up the first time we met, lol. After that second meeting, we became friendly. He lived in the estate and we started calling each other on the phone – not after 9:00PM or I would get in trouble with my mum.

The summer holiday came, and this meant we could see each other more often, without the threat of being caught by parents who’d gone to work. We took walks together, holding hands, talking and laughing about everything. I had fallen HARD for him. I wondered what it would be like to kiss him. I’d been kissed before but it wasn’t “sweet.” One afternoon, Donald stopped by my house and that day we stood outside talking. Something had shifted in the air that day. I was leaning with my back on my dad’s Santana (or maybe it was the Jetta) with Donald standing in front of me. His voice got progressively lower as we talked. And then he asked me the question… “Can I kiss you?” My heart skipped several beats, my breathing becoming heavier (and not due to asthma, this time) and I smiled and said, “Yes.” He leaned in ever so slowly and my eyes fluttered close just before his lips touched mine. His lips were soft, yet firm and we kissed slowly, seemingly forever. That was my first inkling of what passion was.

UPDATE: Please send your stories to berrydakara@gmail.com

Without further ado, here's our first installment...

I know my design skills need a LOT of work

If my heels were an inch or two lower, I’d have taken the steps two, maybe three, at a time. The elevators were taking forever. Rush hour office traffic, I deduced. Not giving myself enough time to mull over it, I began my descent via foot from the 4th floor. Exercise, I kidded myself. That’s the reason you’re taking the stairs. I didn’t time myself because this was no race to the finish line…, no 100m dash, no 50m freestyle. However, I am certain it took less than 90 seconds from the time his TV-series-inspired name flashed across my blue Nokia Lumia, to when I sauntered (okay, maybe jogged) out of my office building – blue, heavy lunch bag filled with my healthy versions of yummy Nigerian food swinging by my side – for my “lunch break.” A girl’s gotta eat, right?

The July sun was out in all its summer glory. Bright, scorching, unforgiving. The wind blew today, quite unusual given the time of day. In the distance, I could hear horns blaring, cars accelerating way past the speed limit (whatever that was), and garrulous pedestrians going about their daily routine.Walking out of the familiar brown gate, I searched for his car. Its bright color made it as conspicuous as an elephant in a china shop. He beckoned, and I immediately felt my pace quicken and a smile escape my lips. Slow down. I did, slowing my steps to my usual catwalk. I talked to myself often, and this time was no different.

He leaned over to open the door and in one swift, graceful movement (okay, maybe two), I was seated in the passenger’s seat. After pleasantries, compliments and hugs were exchanged, he drove to a quiet spot underneath what appeared to be a palm tree, with fronds the length of a small sized trailer. It was a residential area, so it was fairly quiet. Fairly, for nowhere in Lagos is completely void of noise. He must have told me I looked beautiful more than a dozen times. My cheeks suffused with blushes as I shot down his remarks with several objections of “Noooo! I’m okayyyy!”and “Stoooop it!”

I unpacked lunch – sweet potatoes, plantain, spicy sauce with huge chunks of chicken, and sautéed vegetables – while he opened the big green bottle of sweet, red wine he promised to bring. “Alcohol at 2 in the afternoon??” I chided him. I knew the glint in his eyes was as a result of the food, not me. The boy loves his sweet potatoes! More compliments came. “This tastes absolutely delicious. I can’t believe you made this for me.” (umm, I didn’t, bro, but who’s checking anyway?). “You’re so pretty.” (thought we were talking about food, no?).

After we both overate (goodbye waistline!) and the potatoes began their descent to digestion, conversation ensued. I stared at his wide, seductive smile that displayed rows of nicely-shaped teeth. Stop staring at his mouth. Stop staring, I compelled my voluntary system. I was not given enough time to achieve this because, before my obstinate eyes could settle on a different target, his lips met mine – so subtly, so quickly, so gently. I must have floated to the top of the tree we were parked under, for even after he pulled back to examine my face while flashing that smile I’ve grown to love, I was still leaning in, eyes closed, lips puckered and mind a muddled, beautiful mess.
