A Day in the Life of a Working Mum

Hola!

How was your weekend? Mine was kinda busy - I had a fun time meeting with a group of women who came together to pray for their husbands. The hostess had reached out to me as a reader about a year or two ago, and then we finally met this weekend! Even though my blogging has been here and there, I know that it's been a blessing to me (and from what others have said, to them as well).

Today I want to share what the typical weekday is like in my world. I think that a lot of working mothers will relate to this post, and agree that it is TOUGH!

FYI, this is not to take anything away from stay-at-home mums, because I know how exasperating that can be as well. But I know that being a working mum also has challenges - there could be mum guilt from knowing that someone else is essentially taking care of your child for almost 50 hours a week; but at the same time, maybe you want to develop your career and need to do something for yourself; or it could even be that your household definitely needs your contribution to the income, so you have to work. Whatever the case may be, I just want to say, "More grease to your elbows!" And I hope those around you give you the necessary encouragement, thanks and accolades because it's not easy.

Without further ado, here's what the typical work day is like for me.

6:12am - Wake up from alarm blast, and try to read one devotional and pray. A lot of times, Cocoa wakes up before my alarm - sometimes a whole hour before it's supposed to go off. On those days, I will and pray and beg her to go back to sleep. Sometimes she will, and other times, she won't. If she doesn't, we call her daddy on Facetime.

6:30am - 7:00am - Shower, get dressed. Get Cocoa all dressed up and ready for daycare. These days, she's really clingy in the mornings and will not stop complaining until I pick her up. She doesn't know that it's hard to get dressed while carrying her at the same time.

7:00am - 7:40am - Make breakfast for both of us, feed her, pack up my lunch and snacks for the day, call Cakes via video so we can have family time before we head out.

7:40am - 8:40am - Drop Cocoa at daycare, and drive to work. I either listen to a podcast, the radio (typically NPR for news or a Christian radio station), or I call my sister and chat during the drive. I used to listen to sermons at a point in time - maybe I should get back to it.

8:40am - 8:55am - Finish devotional if I didn't finish earlier, do my makeup and mentally prepare for the work day.

9:00am - 1:30pm - Werk werk werk. I have a 15 minute break in between. I typically use that time to respond to chats, and browse or post on Instagram and Facebook.

1:30pm - 2:00pm - Lunch, and some light reading.

2:00pm - 5:30pm - Werk werk werk. I have another 15 minute break in between, and I do the same things as before.

5:30pm - 6:15pm - Drive home, while listening to the news or a podcast.

6:15pm - 7:30pm - . If Cakes is still awake, we call again, but most of the time he's already asleep. If my mum was busy, then I give Cocoa a bath, feed her, play a little, read to her and put her to bed. If my mum fed her and bathed her, I just play with her until she falls asleep.

7:30pm - 8:30pm - Grab dinner, help to clean kitchen/living room and any house chores (maybe start a load of laundry)

8:30pm - 10:00pm - Try to not feel exhausted and complete any personal tasks (attend to my bedroom, work on my blog or Youtube (both mine and Tea With Cubes), catch up on reading or Clever Girl Finance). I try to relax too by watching TV (and I'm back to watching Youtube too). Sometimes I'm just too tired to do anything and I just lie in bed until I fall asleep.

BTW, in between all of this, I spend WAY too much time on Social Media! I think I need to look up ways to reduce phone/social media time, and if I find something that works, I'll share with you.

What's your week day like?

I've shared a Day in My Life once before in this post from 3 years ago. And I also shared a Day in Baby Cocoa's life on my Youtube channel here. I may need to update her's as she is now in daycare for most of the day.

  1. What a busy woman you are! The 6.12 wake up call is so precise though! I am up at 5 am to pray and get some work done (blogging, freelance work etc) then I get ready for work. Start work at 9, finish at 5. Get home at around 6.30, cook dinner and eat, watch TV, then have a bath and get into bed by 11.
That's in a nutshell. It is obviously not as rigid as that and it changes sometimes but there you go!

  2. Thanks Madeline. It's no wonder I'm tired all the time. But then again, it looks like you're constantly on the go too! And I want to be like you - waking up earlier to pray, and so I can get in a short workout as well.

I really wish I could have a work-from-home job sometimes. I wonder if I would be less stressed out.

    Thanks for commenting!

  3. I have a crazy schedule and need to learn better time management. I wake up at 5 am start getting ready for school. Wake the kids at 5.30am (need to include tantrum time there) If I haven’t packed our lunch do so and finish getting ready. Dress my son for school and leave the house before 7am. Classes start @ 8 with 10 mins break every hour. Lunch from 12 to 1.25 pm, either classes or reading 📖 assignments etc. Drive home @ ~ 5 (sometimes earlier) cook dinner , feed the kids clean up . Read or watch YouTube. Sleep @ 10
