Dakara Style - Vintage Flowers Part 1
Hiya!
So remember how I went Treasure Hunting in Owerri? Well, last Friday there was an office party and I determined to wear one of my grandmother's dresses to the event. It was an early evening dinner, and I didn't want to look formal. I had the dress dry-cleaned two days before the event, and on Friday, Iflew tried to fly home from work but traffic was a NIGHTMARE! I ended up rushing and still getting to the event an hour and a half late. But it was a pretty night. It was my first time at Ocean View - I might be enticed to go back at a later date.

RANT OF THE DAY!!!
Oh mah lawd, somebody better hold me back before I WOZ THIS CHICK!!!
*ok, I wouldn't really cos I'm anti-violence in real life* But AAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGHHHHHH!
What's gotten me so flipping mad? I'll tell ya.
So I'm here at work, minding my business. A team member decides to buy breakfast for everyone, as usual. He typically gets akara and fried yam, sometimes sweet potatoes and plantain as well. As you all know, I'm trying to shed some weight so I've refrained from partaking in the usual breakfast. Anyways, I'm sitting at my desk, and the following conversation ensues:
Chick: Berry, are you still on a diet?
Me: I'm not on a diet just watching what I eat.
Chick: Oh you're still watching your weight?
Me: Yes.
Chick: You really shouldn't bother. You're fat already. Orobo. You can't lose weight. Just eat whatever you want.
Me: *stunned silence*
Other ladies: Ah ah, why would you say that? Instead of trying to encourage her.
Chick: I'm just saying. Ok, maybe she's not that fat but she has body.
Me: *intentional silence before some FOUR-LETTER WORDS escape in a professional environment*
I really want to inflict bodily harm on her though.

But Mamah - A short film starring moi!
Hiiiiiiii!
You know what I decided? Instead of waiting to put the few acting gigs I've done in one post, why not just share at intervals? So today I'm sharing a short 7-minute film called But Mamah. It was a collective effort for the annual Atlanta 48-Hour Film Project, in 1998. The premise of the project is for screenwriters, actors, directors, producers, filmmakers, videographers, makeup artists, stylists and more to put a short film together in 48 hours or less. This is after they give you a set of requirements the judges want to see in your movie. For instance, our team was required to write a script based on a holiday and there were certain phrases and props we were supposed to include. My friends Eniola, Gladys and Peter are all Nigerian filmmakers in Atlanta, and I volunteered to join in. I won't go into the story, so you can watch for yourself. Let me know what you think :D
Oh, I'm MAMAH in the movie. Have fun! And TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK O! I like hearing from you.

Confession of Faith
Hey!
It's been a REALLY quiet day. I chose to sit at home - well, not really... I had plans to meet up with some friends and one of them had to cancel. So, THEN I chose to sit at home for most of the day. While going through my devotional this morning, it talked about visualizing victory over sin. Of course it can't be done overnight, and there will be slips, but the will to change and persistently asking for God's grace to help you will get you to where you need to be. When I read that, it reminded me of the "Confession of Faith" written by Bishop Gilbert Thompson of Jubilee Christian Church (formerly New Covenant Christian Church) in Boston. I'd like to share it with you.

This is the day the LORD has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it (Ps 118: 24)
Christ has redeemed me from the curse of the Law. (Galatians 3: 13)
I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I but Christ lives by faith in me;(Galatians 2: 20)
His word dwells in me richly: (Colossians 3: 16)
I am blessed, (Eph. 1: 3; 2 Peter 1: 3-4)
I am healed, (Isaiah 53: 4-5; 1 Peter 2: 24)
I am delivered;(Matt 1: 21; Joel 2: 32)
I have been set free; (John 8: 32,36)
Sickness can't dwell in me; the number of my days He will fulfill, (Ex 23: 25--26
Sin cannot dominate me: (Romans 6: 12)
Because Jesus Christ is my LORD; (Romans 10: 9)
And I am in Him; (2 Corinthians 5: 7)
By Faith, I have the abundant life and the victory He provides, therefore: (John 10: 10; 1 John 5: 4-5)
No weapon formed against me will prosper; (Isaiah 54: 17)
I am more than a conqueror because of His love; (Romans 8: 37)
Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world;( 1 John 4: 4)
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me: (Philippians 4: 13)
As the redeemed of the Lord, I SAY SO! (Psalm 107: 2)
Amen! Have a wonderful weekend. :)

Dekora Style - Colours In Africa!
I know, I know, I'm corny. I wanted to put DECOR in my name somehow and all I could think of was Dekora. I don't like it either but I can't be bothered to think of something else.
So we're having a work party later tonight and I went along with my boss to get a gift for our department's general manager. Our first plan was to go to Eko Hotel, since they have a lot of African art, but a lady recommended going to Colours in Africa (it pains me to write ColoUrs, instead of Colors - it's the American in me). Anyways, I got there and fell absolutely in LOVE! Like I can't wait to get my apartment and buy up the whole place. And I want everyone I know to move, so I can get them housewarming presents. Or maybe they can suffice as birthday presents too? In addition to the decor and furniture, there's a pizza cafe/bar type place in the same compound that's on my list of places to visit - remember I'm exploring Lagos this year. Have a look at some of the pictures I was able to take - the staff was gracious enough to let me take pics.
I'm definitely going back when I get my own place. If you want to visit, they are located at 13A Musa Yar Adua Street, off Idowu Martins in Victoria Island. Check out their website at Colours In Africa.
Off to get ready for the party! Wondering whether to leave my wig on or go au naturel... Pictures will show you.
