Just a short announcement

The match between France and Nigeria just barely ended and I must let you all know that I was mistaken in saying one own-goaling somebody is my cousin. Obviously no cousin of mine would ever score an own goal by mistake. So erm, I'm looking for new cousins to fill the vacant slot.

Thanks for your sympathy and understanding.
Berry.

P.S. Anu didn't make chicken pepper soup for me and I'm still sick.

Berry and Cakes: 6 Months Anniversary

Woot woot! It's mine and Cakes' 6 month white wedding anniversary!!!!!! Technically, officially, we got married on the 12th of December, but we decided to mark our anniversary on the white wedding date (27th). So HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was going to post pictures from the wedding, but they're all mostly on Bella Naija, Knotsvilla, and Photos by Demi already, so no need. I think for our first year anniversary, I'll do a post on my favorite pictures and moments from the different wedding ceremonies. So, since I'm not posting what I originally planned, I'll take a cue from Anonymous' suggestion on what kinda posts you'd like to see from me.

Anonymous wanted to know how I fell in love with Cakes, not how we met. You already know how we met (in church on a Wednesday evening service). So here goes...

When I met him, there was an instant attraction. I thought he was cute and really nice - in fact, I told my sister the week after we met that I wanted to marry the cake guy! However, there was someone else in my life. We weren't dating but we'd been friends for a very long time and I had fallen very hard for him. I thought HE and I would eventually get together and that would be the end of the story. Cakes knew that I had a "friend," but he still liked me anyways and we continued building our friendship. About 2 or 3 months after I met Cakes (June/July), my "friend" broke my heart - he had met someone else. To say that I was devastated is the understatement of LIFE! At that point, I closed my heart to love. Cakes was there beside me, yes, but I pushed him away. I could see that he wanted to be with me, but I wasn't ready to love again. I wasn't sure if I even wanted to love again. I had gotten my heart broken twice in a row, and I couldn't deal with the possibility of another one.

5 Years Gone - Michael Jackson Videos

Hey ever-CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Ooops, sawry. I'm quite sick right now. Yesterday I had allergies all day long, and by this morning, it had transformed into a bad cold. In fact, it feels like the flu because my back is aching too. Anyways, in my achy sneezy state yesterday, I was unable to put up a post for none other than the King of Pop, Michael Jackson! You might remember my post from last year, where I talked about the day he died. (Of course there were tears, wailing and near-depression).

Anyways, this year, I shall put up 5 of my favorite Michael Jackson videos. Honestly I have a looooooooooooong list of MJ favorites, but let's start off with these ones, shall we?

Upcoming Hair Events

Hey people,

As you know, I contribute (am part of the team) at African Naturalistas, a blog for natural hair. This Saturday, there are THREEEEEEEEEE hair events in Lagos. I like to go for hair meet-ups, to meet people, learn, and hopefully buy some fun items.

NATURALS IN THE CITY 8
Naturals in the City is a hair meet up, where all kinds of hair is welcome. This is the 8th edition! There will be vendors selling things from hair products to accessories to skin products and more. There's usually a session of speakers and interactive presentations as well. I've met a few other hair bloggers and just people interested in natural hair at these meetups.

What I did this Weekend

Hey there pretty people!

How are ya? How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun? What'd you do? Who'd you see? Eat anything yummy?

Well, I had a pretty uneventful weekend, which was fine by me because this coming weekend is going to be PACKED!!! I mean, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so watch this space next week :D

On FRIDAY, Cakes had said that we should go out clubbing, because we haven't done anything like that since the wedding. In fact, before we got married, we probably went 3 times (on account of friends' birthday parties). So that was the plan... until 8pm, when he decided that we should go somewhere to watch the football match. Now, I used to party A LOT in my early 20s. I know my body now, and going anywhere at 8pm was a bad idea to me, if we planned on going to a club or lounge afterwards. The proper plan should have been to take a nap and wake up at about 11pm, THEN head out. But Cakes' body was just itching to leave the house, and so we went somewhere in Lekki and caught the tail end of the match that ended in 6-2 (I'm not a soccer head so I can't remember who played). Sure enough, by 10:30, I was yawning and Cakes was tired, and we went home to sleep.

What I've Learned from being a Candy Crush Addict

Yes, everyone... I admit it. I am addicted to Candy Crush. They say the first step in conquering an addiction is acknowledging that you are addicted in the first place. Hopefully, this steers me in the path of overcoming said addiction. But hold up, I've actually learned some things and benefited from Candy Crush, so I'm pretty sure letting it go at this time, would not be the very best idea.

Conspiracy Theory: Tailors

Hi guys!

FYI: This may or may not be a new series on the blog.

So, if you're Nigerian (maybe I can extend it to African), chances are that throughout your life, you've had at least 2 or 3 outfits custom made or sewn for you. I can speak to Nigeria only, since I am Nigerian, and you only need to visit Bella Naija online and check out their Asoebi Bella features to know what I'm talking about. For almost every event, there is a "uniform" or asoebi that a lot of guests have to buy, in order to fit with the event theme (and I'm not just talking about bridal parties). It can be weddings, funerals, baby dedications, etc. In addition to these events, a lot of people have some outfits sewn or made because they see something they like online, and want a replica using their own fabric. (An example is my "rendition" of a dress America Ferrerra wore)

Look what my mum found!!!

Remember when Cakes and I went to the CAF Awards and met Mikel Obi? Remember the vintage dress I was wearing, and how I'd gotten it from when I raided my grandma's trunk boxes?

Well, yesterday my mum went visiting my grandparents and took bunches of pictures of old albums. She posted them on her Facebook page and I had a thrill seeing my mum as a baby, and my uncles and aunts and grandparents from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. While going through the pictures, I happened upon this picture...

Growing Pains

Yesterday I complained about being fed up with the blog design, and most of you agreed. I've gone ahead and made a temporary change, because I was starting to feel claustrophobic with the old template. I say the change is temporary because I'm pretty sure this isn't what I want the final look to be like.

I'm still kinda iffy about the whole white, minimalist design but I literally gasp almost every time I see a blog with that design. I really just don't wanna be like errbawdy else.

Anyway, the point of this post is to let you know that you might be seeing something different the next time you come here. It's just part of the growing and maybe painful process.

Please bear, lion and tiger with me.

Yes, I'm corny and this calls for a song!!!

Jazmine Sullivan - Lions, Tigers, Bears :)

Meanwhile, did you see my cousin on the field yesterday?

P.S. It's been 10 minutes and I have buyers bloggers remorse about this blog template/design.

I'm SICK of this blog!!!

Hello friends,

This is going to be a short one. But let me calm your fears, I'm not shutting my blog down. I'm just sick of the template/design. I've actually been thinking about it for a while, and I feel like I want something simple, yet colorful and cheery - a look that reflects the tone of this blog. Honestly, when I chose the current design, I thought the background looked like wallpaper, and the white and pink font felt like I was just getting together with friends in a cafe to gist while having cappuccinos and chocolate muffins. Don't ask me how white + pink = cafe + cappuccinos and chocolate muffins. Anyways, now it just feels like it's YOUR grandmother's living room, and the plastic cover is still on the furniture, and it smells like the late 1960's. Don't ask me how I know what the late 1960's smells like.

Basically, I want a new blog design. A lot of blogs I like have a white, minimalist background and while I like them, I feel like they all look the same. So Imma scratch that off my list. Oh, and I'm pretty sure I'm not willing to pay for a custom template (since I don't place [paid] ads here, I shouldn't put money into it, right?). I think. I dunno.

Now what? :-S

Suggestions pretty please!

P.S. I don't like dark colors - they make me sad.

Just wanted to bring these 2 things to your attention

I never Esperred it!!!

NB - I had actually posted this last night, but wanted to get pictures from my camera and so I just finished editing the post, so voila!

Woot woot! My birthday finally came and went! YOU GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CHAI! It was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much fun! I wish I could have carried you in my pocket - no wait, my dresses didn't have pockets - inside my bra like all them market women. Actually, it's not only a market woman trait, as I carry my phone inside my bra sometimes (in the cup, or held to my shoulder by my strap). Yes, I know I'm crazy but who currs?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Where do I even start from? Okay, let's go chronological, shall we?

Unpolished Berry

Hello!

First of all, I must apologize to my family and friends that said I shouldn't have replied to the comment in the picture I'm going to post below, because my reply has obviously been extended to this post. Sawry, but since you know me so well, this post shouldn't surprise you. LOVE YOU!

To everyone else, over the weekend, Bella Naija posted pictures from the event Dabs held at her salon, celebrating the second edition of her Savvy & Chic magazine. I already mentioned here that I attended the event. I appeared in 2 pictures on the BN post, and as usual, went to the comments section and BAM! A comment about me...

The main reason why I haven't lost weight

Hi hi (as Cakes has recently started saying... weird, if you ask me - LUH YOU BOO!)

Yeah yeah, I'm talking about my weight again. I'm a woman who has recently gained weight rapidly, so sue me. I've gained about 12-14lbs since the wedding (December). I've written about it as a symptom of being a Newlywed, and I've joked about it (which was offensive to some - again, sorry). We can try to identify the cause of this weight gain - Cakes' cakes, Cakes' fried foods, Grand Square bread, etc. And while all of these may be or may not be part of the reason why I've gained weight, there is one reason why I haven't started the journey towards losing the weight.

That reason is...
